Tired of getting no value tweets from all the twits out there?

John Thomas-Roswell REALTOR: Real Estate Agent in Milton, GA

Hey, Roswell residents, are you tired of getting no value tweets from all the twits out there? Here is a new service that only alters you when something important is happening!

It's called NIXLE and it sends messages to people to alert them about things happening in the city. NIXLE allows city officials to send text messages and emails out to people to keep them up to date on certain things going on in the community. NIXLE, will alert residents to emergency weather events, road closings, public safety advisories, natural and man made disasters through email and text messaging. Roswell will eventually provide general City information too. It's not a law enforcement system, but law enforcement is one of the primary information providers that provide many of us with the most important information that we need to operate our lives on a daily basis, whether it's a road closure, to a danger in a neighborhood, to a local event that the police are monitoring, and they need to put immediate information out to residents.

Most people don't know, including police officers, is that the systems they use every day in their police cars go through the Nlets network. That is what allows the states to communicate with each other. Nlets is what connects local, state, county and federal law enforcement and Interpol is a part of that. The only way to see if there's a warrant out is through Nlets. Nixle are housed at the Nlets public safety network. So it's safe and SECURE.

The best part is that it is available free of charge from the city of Roswell. Just go to www.roswellgov.com. The button to sign up for the service is located on the right hand side of the City’s homepage. You will need to create an account with a user name and password, enter an email address and/or cell phone number where you would like to receive the messages, and then enter your address. Click the “Sign Me Up” button. Text messaging charges may apply.

The “RoundAbout” way from East Roswell to city hall!

John Thomas-Roswell REALTOR: Real Estate Agent in Milton, GA

Roswell Roundabout If you didn’t know the city of Roswell will be installing a “roundabout” at the intersection of Grimes Bridge Road and Norcross Street/Warsaw Roads. Work is to begin in February 2010. It is expect to take between eight and twelve months, or maybe longer, to complete all the work. The road will remain open and school bus route will be the same as always.

Even though this a five way intersection with a stop light the new roundabout will remove any signal and slow down traffic. This has been an accident prone intersection for Roswell ranking 12Th in 2007 with 20 collisions. Studies have shown that a roundabout can reduce fatal crashes by 89%, injury crashes by 76%, and accidents of all kinds by 39%. It’s “green” too. It will reduce pollution by reducing idling time for cars and trucks, and save on the electricity formally used for the signal. Not to mention it’s more attractive. Though some land will be needed to expand the intersection no large trees will be removed and the island will be landscaped.

There will be five cross walks for pedestrian. Cyclists can proceed through the intersection the same vehicle or can dismount and walk. If you do right through make sure to use hand signalsRoundabout Concept to alter traffic when you come to your exist. When travel via motorized transportation these rules of the road apply. Traffic in the roundabout have the right of way, stay behind the crosswalk if there is a car waiting ahead of you at the yield line, don’t pass cyclists and use your turn signal when existing. There will be a raised truck apron for 18 wheelers to negotiate the turns.

Here is a link to a short video Roundabout Concept from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety showing how to use a roundabout.

Government stimulus under the cover of darkness

John Thomas-Roswell REALTOR: Real Estate Agent in Milton, GA

Roswell and Holcomb's Crossing pedestrians will benefit from this project, funded with ARRA (stimulus) funds. Construction will only take place at night so as not to disrupt traffic. Thank goodness for that. Sidewalks will be installed along Holcomb Bridge Road from Old Holcomb Bridge Road to the Georgia 400. The project will include the narrowing of the travel lanes to accommodate sidewalks on the bridge over Big Creek. The groundbreaking for this project was held on November 30 and construction is expected to take eight months. Several other City of Roswell projects will be coming online soon that will aSidewalk project at Big Creek bridgeffect Holcomb's Crossing. We will be updating those in days to come.

Super Bowl Party in Roswell Georgia

Roswell Georgia Real Estate Agent - Nancy Brenner: Real Estate Agent in Roswell, GA

I went to a Super Bowl Party yesterday in Horseshoe Bend. It's a Golf and Country Club Community that sits next to the Chattahoochee River in Roswell Georgia. It had been a few months since I've driven through that subdivision and I'd forgotten how beautiful it is. It is so beautiful, that I just might have to blog about it some time soon. But for now.... I want to blog about yesterday's Super Bowl Party.

The party was hosted by Danny Thornton and Rich Dansereau,
ActiveRain Members that work in the Atlanta Area
for Home America Mortgage.

Hubby and I got there early so I could put
together the appetizer that I prepared.

We were greeted at the door by Rich who was surrounded by 5 beautiful girls that I will introduce later.

We walked into a house that was warm and inviting.... wonderful smells were coming from the huge open kitchen. Bubbling on the stove were 2 dutch ovens filled with some kick- a** chilim loaded with beans, meat and fresh tomatoes. In a very large crock pot was a wonderful vegetarian chili. Both chili's were made from scratch and served with Fritos, shredded cheese and sour cream. As Rachael Ray would say... YUMMO!
There were also platters of chips, smoky links and dips everywhere!

I brought spinach-artichoke dip in a bread bowl (pictured above) and Linda Futral brought some very yummy cheesecake bites. ==============>
Not one was left over. :-)

As other's joined the party, more food arrived. Someone brought a Vidallia-onion/cheese something or other that was to be spread on garlic toast points. OH MY... that was delicious! Someone else brought wings, there were brownies and veggies and I'm sure other wonderful snacks that I just can't remember. We all ate and when 6pm rolled around we were firmly planted in our seats waiting for the kick-off.

I was happy camper through the game as New England was ahead (Disclaimer: My family is from New England so that is where my loyalties were for this game).

We had fun watching the infamous Super Bowl Commercials and at Half-Time we got to eat again! I was even happier at the end of the game - didn't really matter who won - because the final score made me a winner! Cha-Ching!

Linda and I stayed after everyone else had gone home and helped cleanup just a little.
As much as we all ate, there were actually leftovers!
I think I know what our hosts had for lunch today! LOL

All-in-all I do believe that everyone enjoyed themselves.

Brande - we missed you.
You and I and Linda will have to have our own little get-together soon.

Oh Yeah... Those beautiful girls that met me at the door with Rich..... All dogs! At the risk of being silly - I'm going to post their pictures too. They wormed their way into all of our hearts - and laps. haha I'm also adding some pics of other party goers. WARNING: I can't figure out the red-eye removal for my camera - sorry.
