A Visit to Kilauea Lighthouse in Kaua’i, Hawaii

We spent an amazing 5 days in Kaua’i for my birthday in early November – I am still enjoying looking at the photos.

Pt. Reyes lighthouse north of San Francisco CAComing from New England, I am a big lighthouse fan. After all they are all over the place there, particularly in Maine and on Cape Cod.

Lighthouses are not so common here on the Left Coast, but we enjoyed a visit to Point Reyes north of San Francisco a couple of year ago to see that lighthouse (photo to the right).

It is amazing terrain with incredible views in all directions, and the drive there through Marin County is well worth the trip if you ever get the chance.

We were even able to see San Francisco, a distance of about 50 miles I think.

We could see the KILAUEA LIGHTHOUSE from our hotel room in Princeville, Kaua’i, about 5 miles I would guess across the ocean. It was great fun to visit and see it up close, and enjoy all the bird life at the wildlife refuge, including the national bird, the Nene (looks like a Canadian goose).

Since Act 48 came into affect all non judicial part 1 foreclosures are being canceled due to the moratorium. Most likely lenders will switch to judicial foreclosures, more common with local banks (i.e. American Savings, Bank of Hawaii) and the fall out might be a moratorium from the lenders on making loans in Hawaii. Although this is speculation. It’s to early to tell yet how lenders are proceeding. So even though their are still more REOs coming on the market there will probably be a lull or slow down while the moratorium is in effect.

Anini Vista, Home to Kauai's Rich and Famous

Anini Vista is a community of luxury homes and homesites on acreage positioned high on a bluff-top overlooking the Anini Beach area. This area is host to some of Kauai's "rich and famous". Most homes are off of Anini Vista Drive plus a few are off of Kalihiwai Road. There are 40 properties, 38 with CPR ownership and 2 undivided parcels. Anini Beach itself is one of the safer North Shore beaches because of a reef running the entire length. Beach safety is always important in Kauai and especially on the North Shore where winter surf can be deadly.

The County of Kauai Housing Office is awaiting the signed agreement with the State of Hawaii for its share of the economic stimulus funds. The County will then be able to purchase REO (bank owned) homes for low inome qualified buyers. These specific funds will only be available to purchase affordable REOs, no million dollar homes or private owner homes. It will be intereting to see how these funds will affect the market.
