Upcountry Maui has a totally different feeling to it. If you cruise into Makawao town, it still has the feeling of an old cowboy town. You might see a cattle truck driving through town or horse trailers pulling there cargo to work or just for a ride in the hills. Upcountry has areas that people favor for living. There are people that just love Olinda, located right above Makawao town. Olinda offers rolling hills and beautiful pasture views over looking the pacific ocean. January Maui Real Estate Market!.

Last month December was pretty quiet till we hit Christmas Season on Maui. December is usually a slow month but we were still off 25%. We are now into our winter season. Maui real estate is of key interest, especially to our Canadian buyers. I have been talking to owners in Wailea, that for various reasons are making a lifestyle change and downsizing their homes. At the same time buyers know that there is a lot of inventory, which means it's a great time to buy. Talking with lenders some of our local banks like First Hawaiian Bank and Bank of Hawaii are actually really in good shape. The interest rates are at an all time low. So I do think the New Year may not be a record year for real estate sales. We will see a steady flow of business this year.

This little farm in Kula has the best selection of fresh locally grown fruits and veggies. I was surprised to find local raspberries when I went there for the first time. Look at all the wonderful little plants and local flowers you can buy too.

If you drive up to Kula on the Kula Highway, it will be on your right, very close to Rice Park. It's a beautiful drive upcountry, so plan on taking your time and stopping for some pictures along the way. Other points of interest nearby are Kula Botanical Gardens, La Provence Restaurant, and Keokea Park.

While driving around in Kula you might be interested in some Kula homes for sale. Right now there's a great selection of new and resale homes, and building lots, starting in the $300,000's.
