Grandma Florence is in the Honolulu Examiner because of her age and her Twitter account

Jeffery Griffin (R): Real Estate Agent in Wailuku, HI

My Hanai Grand Mother Florence Hasegawa has been on twitter for about 2 months now, she's 101 years old, still lives alone and cooks for her self. She's very capable of taking care of her self. I spend Sundays with her and take advantage of that time to ask her questions, ask for advise and just savor the knowledge that a person of this age will have to share with us all.

Grand Ma Florence has now made the Honolulu Examiner.

@GrandmaFlorence on Twittwer

So if your on twitter follow Grand Ma she is pure and truthful, she wont beat around the bush with you or anyone else.

She lives in a big Plantation house on the west side of Maui, the house was built by her husband it is a mix of plantation era and french design, a big stone porch (Lanai) Thatch Tin Roof on a very large lot facing the ocean and the island of Lania. I enjoy my days there, it is hot, no AC, yet the trees are old and bare fruit like Kinney Mango's and Grapefruit, limes and Guava. She's very well know and loved by the entire neighborhood. Her neighbors watch over her and we are all blessed to have her here with us.

I'll write more later I have to run down the hill and go to Puuone Towers for a new listing.

Seeing 'Ulalena in Lahaina Maui for the second time

Ulalena Show - Maui Hawaii

Maui Theatre ~ 'Ulalena

We treated our visitors to a live show in Lahaina Maui that's sure to please... 'ULALENA.

The second time seeing this excellent Hawaii stage production was even better than the first time. Even my 87 year old dad was impressed, and he's not easily impressed.

As VIP ticket-holders we were treated to an after-show where we got to meet the players and hear their stories and feel their passion about life in Hawaii. I recommend the VIP treatment because it's a nice touch, with the free drinks before the show. You can take them in.

The Maui Theater was built just for this show, and it opened about 10 years ago, when we saw the show the first time. A Montreal Canada company is the producer of this creative endeavor..."the newest and most amazing stage production to come from Hawaii in decades". With song, dance, acrobatics, chant and narration, the story of the islands comes to life. Successive waves of voyagers come to these shores, a landscape alive with volcanoes, oceans and forests. Mythology and creativity are combined resulting in a show that is well done and very entertaining. Gods and monarchy, plants and animals and spirits all take a place on the stage for the hour and a half show. The facilities are first rate and there's plenty of free parking.

Lahaina Maui has a lot of fun things to do at night both before and after a show. This night we had dinner at Bubba Gumps right on the water... fish and chips, wine and beer. Followed by shopping along picturesque Front Street, where a surprising number of tourist shops were still open. We bought Maui Candles which are pretty cool and make nice presents, easy to pack.

driving thru Lahaina Maui in the rainThat was a fun day driving to Lahaina, 6 of us in the van, with coolers and beach chairs. It was raining in Lahaina, slightly, which is unusual. Visitors to Maui really like the historic town of Lahaina, with it's awesome banyan tree, look there it is! I'm already missing the Canadian Hunters and wishing they would come to Maui more often.

I'm not much of a Lahaina fan, and would prefer to be on the North Shore of Maui, where it's so green and lush. But for a day outing it was great to get to "the other side".

Ulalena cuts back

Jeffery Griffin (R): Real Estate Agent in Wailuku, HI

A sign of the times. More people are dealing with cut backs and job loss. I would have to say to anyone visiting Hawaii the Ulalena show is the best theatrical and musical show on Maui. I get chicken skins from the music every time I see it. I go at least once a year sometimes I see the show 3 times in a year. Do your self a favor and see the show, do the actors and musicians a favor and support them the show is fantastic and we all need to keep working.

Help support the arts on Maui and visit Ulalena today!

Aloha and Good morning!

The weekend should be 'normal fall weather' for the islands. Isolated, occasional rain, but mostly sunny and warm. The keiki should have a good evening for "Trick-or-Treat".
On the mainland - it's cooler, with highs in most west coast areas only in the 60's. Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Diego may reach the low 70's; and Las Vegas 84.
Economic Update:
Stocks are up a little on the day -- if they remain their this will end as the worst month in 21 years. The DOW has dropped 18.2% in October, the worst month since October 1987, when there was a 21.8% decline.
The Commerce Department's Personal Spending index showed a 0.3% decline the previous three months are the lowest since June, 2004. The Purchase Managers Index (PMI) was 37.8 well below expectations of 48.0; however, the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Survey showed a 57.6 reading, above expectations.
Currently the DOW is up about 190 points at 9370.98; the NASDAQ is up 31.31 to 1729.83 and the S & P 500 is up 22.57 to 976.66. The 10 Year Treasury yield is at 3.91%
Greystone Finance and Mortgage Industry Update:
The end of one month means the beginning of another -- get your loans in early for November as the holiday at the end always shortens the work month. If you fund four or more first mortgages (non-govie) you'll receive an additional .25 points retroactive! Get the loans in early and earn an extra Christmas bonus!
The term is TARP - Troubled Asset Relief Program -- we'll have to see just how many people get relief and how much it helps- details are sketchy so far.

Halloween in Lahaina, Maui - 'Mardi Gras of the Pacific'

For those of you who have never experienced Halloween in Lahaina, it's quite an event - with thousands of people descending upon Front Street in the afternoon to watch the Keiki Parade and then hanging out to participate in the celebration and see all the creative and interesting costumes.

The evening's festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. with the West Maui Soroptimist and Lahaina Rotary Clubs' Annual Children's Costume Parade. Hundreds of costumed children will make their way down Front Street to Kamehameha Iki Park, where they will receive a parade ribbon and a free bag of goodies to start off their night of trick-or-treating.

With Front Street being long and oceanfront, it's the perfect location for a big party. The numerous second story bars and restaurants provide the perfect viewing platform to see the many wild costumes below. The people of Maui and all of the neighboring islands look forward to Halloween in Lahaina, and folks from the mainland return year after year for the celebration. It's reminiscent of New Orleans and lots of fun.

This year the event is less organized than in prior years but we still expect crowds of partying people. In past years, the Lahaina Town Action Committee has obtained permits to organize the event, including hosting a costume contest, selling souvenir t-shirts, bringing in entertainment and working with the county to close the roads for the entire evening. This year, The Maui County Cultural Resource Commission decided that the event was inconsistent with Hawaii's cultural history and traditions, and therefore the town will not officially be hosting the event and costume contest and organizing entertainment, but the police will still be present to maintain order and local businesses will surely be offering their own souvenirs and entertainment.
