The day after Thanksgiving?
They say the day after thanksgiving is a big shopping day? Well that may be, I was enjoying some friends with a morning walk on Baldwin Beach on Maui. It is just an exceptional morning, with no wind. My friends flew in from California the day before. So after our morning coffee and papayas we were off to Baldwin Beach.
It was early in the morning, people were slow to hit the beach. Maybe they were shopping, I can't believe they would pass up a beautiful morning.
Baldwin, on days like this reminds me of Tahiti.
This young girl just finish a ride on her boggie board. The surf was perfect for a little shoreline surfing.
This is a great walking beach. You see people jogging, walking their dogs, and couples taking in the morning sunshine.
This is called baby beach, A very popular beach with mom's and their kids. It's also a great place to swim and do laps.
I love this shot of Grandma or as they say in Hawaii, "Tutu". She was down there with her family and trusty dog. So that is a little window of a day after Thanksgiving. If you are interested in North Shore real estate. Check this link for Maui real estate. Have a great day!

Last night, the news was saying that the winds were going to blow, 10 to 20 miles an hour. Winter is here on Maui. I woke up to early, the trade winds were just whipping up to 35 mph. We have been experiencing, just a beautiful fall. Well winter has settled in, and most likely the rain will follow on the North Shore. I was heading to Kahului town and I had my trusty camera with me.
I was driving pass the Baldwin Estate, the Baldwins where early missionarys to Maui. This is one of many homes that they built in the early, and late 1800's. This estate is located in Haiku, Maui, on 25 acres.
Here is another island Haiku Home, on two acres of land.
I was driving pass Hookipa Beach Park. It was way to windy for surfing, but a great day for those loving a really windy day. The winds were actually really strong today.
I was getting a kick out of watching the tourist. Everyone loves to watch the surf. I could not resist taking their picture. It's fun to be on vacation, and it was evident that they were having a great time.
Even on super windy days, it has this beauty that is wild and majestic. If you look up the coast in this shot, that is were I am headed. To have a look at Kanaha Beach Park. Just maybe the wind is not out of control.
Well what do you know, the wind was firing. My sail was to big, so I settled for talking to the crew. A couple of my friends just arrive from Aspen. What I really like about windsurfing, is you meet people from all over the world. They are pretty much committed, returning each year. Maui is the wind surfing capital of the world. It is also a great place to have board meetings.
These kids, were having a great time on the beach. Some times you see kids around this age, just ripping out in the water sailing.
This guy from Switzerland headed out, and was back on the beach re-rigging a smaller sail. So I hope you enjoy, a little bit of our life on the North Shore of Maui. Did I mention that we also have great food in Paia town. So your next trip to Maui, make sure to visit the North Shore. Check with Steve for North Shore, and Haiku Maui homes for sale.

While I'm on the topic of Old Hawaii (yesterday I posted about Old Wailuku), I just have to give a shout out to Eddie Flotte, a watercolor artist who is passionate about the old buildings and people here on Maui. Here's a unique video featuring his watercolors of Paia and Makawao towns. This will really tug at your heart if you're the nostalgic type... it's about 6 minutes with a musical soundtrack.
Historic Paia and Makawao still retain a lot of the old-timey character from a bygone era, when sugar was king. Maui has a rich history of immigration, which makes for a nice melting pot of nationalities and cultures. All cultures are celebrated here and the best things of each gets knit into the fabric of the islands.
If you're visiting Maui, be sure to spend some time in the north shore town of Paia, and then drive up Baldwin Ave to the cowboy town of Makawao - you won't be dissappointed. Let me know if have any questions about where to eat.
