Hawaii Relocation: History and Views of Mokuleia, Oahu, Hawaii

www.localism.com featured article

Relocating to Hawaii? It's always a good idea to learn a little about the area you are moving to so I put together a little more about our island of Oahu. On the way to Mokuleia (Mo Koo Lay ee a) was the old Waialua (Why ah loo a) Sugar Mill. The Waialua Sugar Mill opened in 1898 and operated for 98 years before closing down operations on October 4, 1996. Currently, the Old Sugar Mill is like a little shopping mall. The picture to the left is the North Shore Soap Factory. Open9-5 m-s; 12-5 Sundays

Other shops: North Shore Country Store-(decals, stickers, home made products, baby shirts) Open Saturdays

Island X (Waialua Coffee, Dole Coffee and Chocolate Processing, Garden and Business items)-Open M - Sat

Farmers Market -Open Sat Mornings

Almost to the end of Farrington Hwy. is Kaena Point. More on Kaena Point in this post HAWAIIAN LEGENDS: Kaena Point, Waimea Valley, and Two Heiau's. You can only go so far on this side although you are able to hike "carefully" around the point. Or you can also drive on the Waianae side of the island and at the end of Farrington Hwy on that side will be Yokohama Bay right before the end. There is also a military Naval Communication site on that side.

There are also endangered HAWAIIAN MONK SEALS which I wrote about in Endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals: What about "All Those Years Ago"? and they hang out on the Kaena Point side of the island because it is not frequented by humans. There are federal and state laws in place to not harass the seals and recently an Alaskan tourist made a film harassing a seal and posted it on My Tube. He subsequently was arrested and charged with a felony. Other arrests found here: ARRESTS FOR HARASSMENT OF HAWAIIAN MONK SEALS

Kite Surfing is a real popular thing here at Mokuleia Beach Park. There were at least thirty kite surfers this day and they were having loads of fun! The thing about kite surfing is there doesn't have to be huge waves to ride on.....just a nice wind. WooHoo!

This beach is also wonderful for snorkeling, swimming and sea shelling!

Skydive Hawaii is located on the old Dillingham Airfield. Skydive Hawaii
68-760 Farrington Hwy
Dillingham Airfield
Mokuleia, Oahu

Dillingham Airfield was fully utilized during World War II. Over the years it was an Army Air Field and an Air Force Air Field and finally closed but used for civil use in the 1970's. In a joint agreement with the military and the State of Hawaii it continued civil use and in the late 1990's until present there are the skydiving and sailplane rides. The gliders and many private aircraft are based here as well.

Soar Hawaii is also located on Dillingham Airfield and is a Sailplane Ride Adventure.

Reservations & Information
English: (808) 637-3147 Japanese: (808) 282-7456
Call: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time
1:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time
Daily Operations & Hours-Dillingham Airfield
Open 365 Days a Year
10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

ENJOY THE SHOW BELOW AND WELCOME TO OAHU, HAWAII!

Mahalo!

Celeste "Sally" Cheeseman, RA * Century 21 Liberty Homes*

95-2214 Kipapa Drive, Mililani, HI 96789

Direct Contact: 808-375-1404

www.hawaiihomesmarket.com

Celeste "Sally" Cheeseman's Mililani Hawaii Real Estate Blog 2007©

All pictures the property of Celeste "Sally" Cheeseman©

Hawaii Relocations
