Home Inspectors must pass an Inspector Examination before joining and each year after to remain a member. Only about 40% of inspectors who take the InterNACHI exam pass. Of those who pass the exam...only 10% are able to fulfill the remaining membership requirements.

Its a good idea for a home inspector to have completed some type of formal education. Members must also complete a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education each year. (I personally completed the National Institute of Building Inspectors course via the University of Iowa & complete 25-30 hours of continuing education each year).

InterNACHI Certified Home Inspectors must abide by a strict Code of Ethics and also adhere to InterNACHI's Standards of Practice.
