REDUCE ASTHMA TRIGGERS IN YOURHOME
Millions of children have asthma. It causes hospitalization and chronic problems. But
there are ways in which you can reduce, even eliminate problems in your home that may
trigger attacks.

Asthma is triggered by something in the environment from tobacco smoke to cold
weather, even stress. Here are some basic methods of combating it.

Dogs and cats are cherished pets, and if you have them and family members with asthma,
you must keep fur and feathers out of the house, especially in the bedrooms. While some
animals may naturally cause less dander, all have it. Your pets will also need to have
their Saturday night baths, every week, in order to reduce this danger, even kitty.
Keep humidity levels in your home appropriate, 30 to 50% to reduce the growth of mold,
and create a comfortable home. A leaky roof needs to be fixed, pipes and windows too,
and be careful your houseplants are not creating mold.
A delicate subject, but important is cockroaches. Keep kitchen and eating
areas free of uncovered food and crumbs. Extermination may be necessary,
but if you don't remove the food sources, they will return.

Lastly, when pollen counts are high stay indoors and use air conditioning
systems.
Ask your REAL Estate Agent, Bill Young to send you other informative articles such as reducing dust
mites in your home and how to eliminate mold. Asthma is triggered by something in the
environment from tobacco smoke to cold weather, even stress.
When you tackle painting or finishing projects in the house, use products with no or low
volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These chemical emissions can trigger attacks along
with other odors such as perfumes, deodorizers you use throughout the house, cleaning
chemicals, even body powders. Buy green cleaning products or save money by making
your own!
It goes almost without saying that tobacco smoke inside your home, when family
members have asthma, is not recommended. And while you believe that smoking outside
is OK, even the smell on your clothes can be detrimental to asthma sufferers.
Secondhand smoke is a big problem for children.

XERISCAPING,
WHAT IS IT?
In short, xeriscaping means using creative landscaping to conserve water. The technique
uses native plants which are best suited to the area. While this landscaping technique
started in high drought areas, it is broadening in its appeal in all geographic areas.
What are the Benefits?
• Saving water is the key benefit of this technique. We apply 50% of our
residential water to plants and lawns. This technique can reduce this water usage
by 50-75%.
• Minimal maintenance which consists of occasional pruning and weeding.
• Save on fertilizers and pesticides which are usually unnecessary because
sufficient nutrients are provided by healthy, organic soil.
• Reduce pollution because the more of your yard you xeriscape, the less turf areas
you have to mow, potentially allowing you to change to a reel mower.
• Raise your property value with xeriscaping which can also offset the cost of the
installation.
• Provide a natural wildlife habitat through the use of native plants.
You can start designing your xeriscape yourself, but we suggest you draw out plans
before you begin, or hire a professional designer. Plan your property from an aerial view
if possible.
While we can’t tell you everything about xeriscaping in this article, here are a few more
basic principles and suggestions:
• Study the natural drainage patterns, hills, and valleys of your property. You may
want to add interest through terraces, rocks, timber and other natural elements.
• Think about areas for seating, walkways, outdoor dining and any other activities.
• There are more great ideas for xeriscaping from improving your soil to mulching,
irrigation, groundcover and maintenance. Use Web sources to learn more and
also contact your local nursery who may know designers and can acquaint you
with native plants.
Be sure to check your local
ordinances for landscape
bylaws prior to starting
a project.

In a groundbreaking ceremony on September 14th, 2009, Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter along with citizens, business leaders and other government officials launched the continuation of the Hwy 93, Twin Falls Alternate Route project.
Expected to take about 2 years to complete, the Twin Falls Alternate Route, Stage 2, will connect the area south of Twin Falls at the junction of U.S. 93/U.S. 30, north to Pole Line Road then east to where Stage 1 of the project left off, just west of the new hospital. A roadway designed for 65-mph traffic will include features such as a new four-lane bridge crossing over Rock Creek, a reconfigured intersection at Pole line Road and 2400 East Road, wider shoulders, left and right turn lanes, and road base will be constructed for four lanes in anticipation of future expansion.

"We are a merchant state" Governor Otter said. "We need safe and efficient corridors of commerce to keep our products and our economy moving" which reinforced an earlier statement made by State Senator John McGee, "The Twin Falls Alternate Route, Stage 2 will safley and effiecently move our people and our prouduct". There is no doubt the $26.6 million project will improve mortorist safety and reduce congestion through Twin Falls. More importantly perhaps, about 500 jobs will be created to help stimulate economic activity in and around Twin Falls. This could not come at a better time since the announcement of the Dell Call Center closing it's doors.

The Idea of a beltway around the northwest side of Twin Falls has been in consideration since the 1970's. The Twin Falls Alternate Route Stage 2 Project is funded with federal stimulus money given to the Governor to be used at his discretion. Twin Falls Myor Lance Clow thanked the Governor and the transportation board for dedication stimulus funds to the project.
