About Rathdrum's Golden Spike Estates

Golden Spike Estates, a community for adults age 55 and older, has been awarded Special Recognition in AARP's 2009 Livable Communities Awards.

Golden Spike Estates is a 75 acre project located on the south side of Rathdrum, just off Highway 41.  What's different about this community is that residents buy their homes, but lease their land, which cuts the cost of home ownership. 

The lot leases are $295 and include water, sewer and garbage service, taxes on the land, and a clubhouse with an exercise room, TV, lap swimming pool, sauna and large jetted tub.  Sounds like a bargain to me!

The amenities bring to mind a vacation playground, and also include a beauty salon, sun deck, nine-hole golf chip course, horseshoe pits, fire pit outdoor BBQ area.  Soon to be installed are an outdoor volleyball court and basketball shooting areas along with people and pet parks.  A computer lab is provided, and all homes have WiFi internet service.   

With that long list of amenities, it's no wonder that only one lot in the 3rd phase remains unsold!  There are currently 155 finished homes in Golden Spike Estates.  The 4th phase of 44 lots is set to open soon.  When completed, Golden Spike Estates will have 324 homes.
