Here's the list of materials I gave this homeowner this morning. She wants to sell this property.
THE PROBLEM: "It's bland".
We already removed the overgrown shubbery in the front yard.
But the property has blue siding with white trim. Kind of dated in a way but she wants to add some curb appeal.
THE SOLUTION:
Look at the property as if it were a painting. Something needs to "grab ya" and keep you on the painting. You don't want the eyes to wonder.
So, I suggested that with the removal of the overgrown bushes in the front of the house we now need to focus on "grab ya" attitude.
The siding is aluminum but it is in great shape. She has three options for change:
Use Benjamin Moore's Exterior Oil Base Low Luster paint and spray the entire outside of the house with a new color. (Suggestion: make sure that the windows are protected in plastic and the items that you want as a contrasting/accent color are protected as well).
OR paint the corners house in white. Paint the base of the block foundation a medium cocoa brown to blend in with the dirt versus the blue or stark white, which would really make the house an eye sore. We suggested that the bay window remain the the same main color as the house as you want to have the "grab ya" look from the front yard and not make the eyes wonder away to maybe the neighbors house that might not be for sale. We suggested pulling back on the deep reddish brown fence and restaining it using Behr's solid stain as the colors on the fence are a little "uneven" and a semi-transparent color would pick up on the uneven look and again, make it an eye sore another way.
This home has alot of blue and the yard and trees have alot of green, so we want to neutralize with the fence color and not fight with the green and the blues.

Here's the home in living color. See the blue foundation brick. The fence on the right kind of just doesn't grab ya one way or the other. And then when you look at the siding, nothing keeps you "on the picture".
That's why we decided to paint only the four corners of the house in white and that would create some boundaries for this home.
Neutralize the color on the fence (a/k/a tame that baby down).
The front storm door is in black and we are thinking about painting it white because it maybe fighting the house too much. We'll know more when we make the initial changes.
But you see that bay on the side of the house? Those corners need to stay Blue and not be repainted as you want to "BLEND" not "FIGHT" with the colors.

So, know you can see why we need to tame the strength of the fence down. We have an awesome good height Burgandy color treed in the front yard with another green leaf tree. You want to focus on the front yard and not let the strong burgandy color that is on the fence right now to compete.
Now, bottom is, once this is done, then we will add some high/low landscaping that will be floral bushes in fine patterns as something strong, that this home had before would be too powerful.
Alot of thought goes into adding curb appeal or making a face change on a house to create a new look. More slides coming as the changes take place.
