The Kankakee Valley Park District presents the 2008 Power Boat Nationals and River Fest on the Kankakee River Labor Day Weekend. The Power Boats will be racing on the River each day along with tons of activities along the riverfront starting Friday continuing through Monday.

• Saturday features the Buffalo Wild Wings Eating Contest and the always popular Cardboard Boat Races
• Sunday includes a Guitar Hero Contest and a Double Elimination Dodgeball Tournament
  
• Monday finishes the weekend with more Power Boat racing, an Outdoor Sportman Show and Pedal Go Carts

The annual Oktoberfest starts Thursday 9/18 and continues thru Sunday 9/21. As usual there will be many activities throughout the weekend for all ages including..

• Thursday from 2-6pm Farmers Market, 6pm The bean bag tournament starts
• Friday and Saturday Check out the garage sales throughout the village.
• Saturday Night @ 7pm The annual Lighted Parade
  
• Sunday Morning @ 8am The Oktoberfest Run for Education starts at the High School- 5K Run that benefits the Manteno Educational Foundation

It was a bittersweet moment last night when I became "past - President" of the Kankakee County Association of Realtors. A tremendous weight has been lifted from my shoulders, but I suddenly feel like I have nothing to do. No purpose! ;) I'm not used to being idle in my time.

Well, it's time to get serious and get back to business. Being President is a wonderful experience. You learn so much. You have to,, so many come to you for answers you have to know what you are talking about! But I became so busy I started to meet myself coming and going. Now I need to get busy and shovel out my office. You wouldn't believe how much you accumulate in a years time!

Our new President, Sarah Powers, Realtor, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage will do a fantastic job.

The Kankakee Farmer's Market takes place each Saturday from 7am-Noon, weather permitting. The Kankakee Farmer's Market will run thru October 11th this year, It is a great place to take the whole family, be sure to take some time to come out and support our local vendors. There is something for everyone including produce, plants, foods and specialty homemade items.
