Sculpture Invasion Arrives at Oakton Community College

Shimmering lights, a flash of bright, and amazing shapes. Alien Invasion? No, but sculptures have invaded Oakton Community College, Des Plaines Campus. A new exhibit has arrived, aptly named "Sculpture Invasion 2010." The pieces of this exhibit were selected from the Chicago Sculpture International, a group which encourages exchanges and sharing of sculpture.

sculptureApproximately 40 pieces are on display on the north side of the campus, at the Oakton Sculpture Park. This display joins the permanent collection already found on the campus. Smaller sculptures are located within the community college's art museum, Koehnline Museum of Art.

Relax, take a break and enjoy this exhibit while it's here. You can encounter wonderful contemporary art, such as "Winter Moon," "Wacko," and "Nightingale." Artists Ray Katz, Barry Tinsley, Michael D. Brown, John Adduci and others are exhibiting a wide array of art and art mediums - steel, limestone, mixed media, mosaics and aluminum. It seems to be unanimous that the shimmering and flashing steel and aluminum sculptures are the ones catching everyone's attention!

So, plan a day trip or an outing while the great weather is still here! The exhibit runs through most of summer, until August 26, 2010, and the museum is open to enjoy 10 am to 7 pm Monday through Thursday.
