So I've been working in the Geneva, Illinois area for over 13 years now. Day in and day out I'm out and about the town visiting listings and doing the normal business one would expect in this industry. I've met all kinds of people and shared all sorts of experiences...
The other day I'm sitting at my desk working (okay, I was probably tooling around in the rain) when the receptionist at the front desk calls. "There's someone here to see you named George, he says he's your cousin." Ya, right - I think. I don't have any cousin named George. What lengths will salespeople go to get in front of you..?
I hesitate but make my way up front and am struck by this fellow who bares a striking resemblance to my grandfather on my mothers side. He introduces himself, and the younger man accompanying him (who he claims is his son). I lead them into a conference room and we sit down to chat...
The more he talks, the more I realize hey - this guy IS related to me. It turns out he lives in Batavia (the next town over). He and his son dabble in genealogy and after some research they tracked down my mother. Once they figured out her married name it dawned on them that he had seen this name before around town. So he logically stopped in at the local RE/MAX to see what he could find - me. He brought with him a very hard to follow story (I think he said his Mom was the sister of my Mom's Dad). I guess that makes us cousins. Better than this, he brought a book that someone had put together with a history of my Mom's family line. He proceeded to show me photos in the book of my far flung ancestor that lived in China back in the 1800's and he informed me that my relatives invented the wire handle found on cans of paint in all the finer hardwood stores.
He had brought the book as a gift for my Mom. He handed me a couple of his business cards and with that he was gone...
In hindsight I wish I would have been more cordial and talked at greater lengths, but at the time I was dumbfounded at the instant revelation that I had relatives mere miles from my workplace. Perhaps I'll have to look him up and chat some more.

In Geneva the primary improvements consist of average single family residential structures with a typical mix of multi-family dwellings and commercial support improvements. There are no apparent adverse factors affecting the marketability of this general market area. The turnover rate & employment stability are also normal for this suburban market area. The Chicago commuter train is available in the center of town. The area is rapidly growing with several new retail centers & housing projects currently under construction.
The Fox River, an Illinois State Park Waterway runs N-S through the center of town. Parks, schools, and other typical suburban buffers outline the residential streets. Geneva is an Illinois certified city & a far western suburb of Greater Chicagoland.
