We Came, We Saw, We Held The Giant Pickle!
Many of you might have noticed a while back I finally updated my pic to this:
This picture is of myself in the middle and my husband Rick to the left and son Austin to the right. While on vacation we visited a pickle factory...sounds kind of weird, but my son loves pickles and the factory offers tours and is located about 30 minutes from New Haven, IN where my husband grew up.
The night we arrived my husband's mother, Juanita, told my husband about some locally manufactured pickles she had purchased...apple cinnamon flavored. They sounded really strange, but I tried them anyway. I am not that found of apples so I wasn't that thrilled about them. Juanita told us she wanted to purchase more of these pickles and also told us about the factory where they are made which is located in St. Joe, IN.

We decided to visit the factory since my son loves pickles and my husband Rick had accidentally poured out all of the brine left over from Juanita's apple cinnamon chunks. She had just finished telling us she was saving the brine since she had already added regular pickles and let them sit for a while and they tasted the same as the one's she had purchased. Oops!My son initially complained and said he didn't like pickles so he didn't want to go, but once we were there he was pretty excited. The factory has a store at the front with a variety of specialty pickles and other goods and also souvenirs. I purchased a magnet so that I would be able to order pickles in the future after finding out from the store clerk they will ship pickles anywhere in the country. They have a cooler that contains a variety of there more unusual pickles in containers that you can taste test the different pickles and choose flavors you like.
We looked around for a while and then inquired about the tour only to find out that the factory had experienced a glitch and had to shut down production for the day. I was really looking forward to the tour to see how the pickles are made and I wanted to share photos with my readers, but maybe next trip.
We finished purchasing our pickles and various other sundries, including the pickle stress "balls" my husband's dad, Humberto, picked out. When we were finished we headed out and I decided before getting in the car to take a couple of photos of the outside. Juanita decided it was a good chance to take photos of the three of us. Since she was already taking them I had her take that picture of the three of us.

This picture was also taken by Juanita. When she was taking the other picture of us the store clerk brought us a giant pickle for a photo prop. My son wanted to bring it home with us! We had a laugh at it...

I tried quite a few varieties of their pickles and I really loved their regular pickles and also the sweet varieties. They ship anywhere in the country and the store clerk was very nice. She said she tries to ship the most reasonable method possible and also she will mix and match orders...you can get different varieties instead of buying a whole case of the same pickle. The clerk also said she creates gift baskets for Christmas with a variety of items.
