About Greenfield's Glen Oaks

Mayo Clinic, Rochester Mn.

Shirley Soforic: Real Estate Agent in Carmel, IN

Mayo ClinicWe are supposed to blog about our KEYWORDS. My keywords are Indianapolis, Indiana, Marion County Indiana, New Palestine, Indiana, and all my wonderful surrounding areas. But in this case, Indianapolis fell very short of the needs of my family. I am posting about Mayo Clinic, because it is foremost in my thoughts as I wake each day.

After several months of agony and pain, we, as a family (6 of us) drove to Rochester . We arrived on a Monday, and called for an appointment late Monday afternoon. We received that appointment for 9AM the next morning. Our first appointment was with a Hematologists. The hematology's department takes the whole floor of the Mayo building, as did the Cardiology Department and the Neurology Department. The rest of the time was spent taking blood draws, sweat tests, tilt table tests, MRIs, EKG, and some I do not even remember. We left Indiana in search of a "cure". At Mayo we got answers, but no cure.

I write this blog for 2 important reasons.....ONE IS TO AID OTHERS WHO ARE ILL AND HAVE NO ANSWERS. And 2, because this is what we live with everyday. We have our answers. Had we stayed in Indianapolis, we would still be searching for a cure. Not ONE doctor locally had any clue what was wrong with Andy. They just guessed. Not only that after the diagnosis, and returning home, we still need the local Docs to assist us as we progress down this spiraling path.

Yet when you tell them my husband has MULTIPLE SYSTEMS ATROPHY. The response is that they have not heard of it. Not only does he have MSA, he has PNH. PNH is the name for hemolisis. Hemolisis is the body is destroying its own blood cells. I always knew Andy was special. I just never knew he would have two very rare and incurable diseases. From now on, a few of my blogs will be about these illnesses. Maybe I can build some awareness that will help someone else. In our visit with the Hematologist, he said, "The Bone Marrow never forgets".

38 years ago, we visited Mayo Clinic for the first time. Again we found that Andy had a bone marrow disease, which was incurable. He lived by being transfused for 5 years. After that we had a huge miracle. His bone marrow began producing again. Back then, he was not a candidate for a transplant. At that time the success rate was 90% in identical twins. Look how far the medical field has come! Now transplants, are still serious, but a very common thing. At that time in Indianapolis, we were told that there was no cure. A visit to Mayo gave us the hope and inspiration to keep on fighting. Help and answers are out there for all of us. Just make sure you look for it.

Home ownership is more than just an investment.........

Shirley Soforic: Real Estate Agent in Carmel, IN

homeownership? And it means so much more to those clients we serve each day. It means having a good place that is secure and a place to raise your children, give them a good education, and have some control over your family life. It also provides a safe feeling for both parents and children. There is something to be said for owning it, even if it is with the bank.

You can have pets of all sizes and shapes, you can plant a garden, fence your yard, add a room, and do most anything that you desire.(xcept for the HOA). Most of us have rented at one time or another. Apartment living is not for families, pets or freedom. Renting a home from a landlord will be almost as restrictive. You cannot paint, put in a garden or have a dog over 50 lbs, and not a lot of kids. The only advantage is if something breaks, they MIGHT fix it, but definitely in their own time.

But, the value is down..........just wait, it will come back. You just did not get the anticipated 10% appreciation we had all come to love and expect.

OPEN HOUSES - GOING FISHING

Shirley Soforic: Real Estate Agent in Carmel, IN

open houseToday, I am holding an open house at 278 Bear Hollow Way, Indianapolis, Indiana. Stop by if you can! Just what is an open house? It is an :

Opportunity - to go fish....See the people.

Opportunity - find a buyer.

Opportunity - to solve a sellers problem

Opportunity - sell your own listing.

Opportunity - place a sign on corners for all to see for 3 days.

Opportunity - to show the neighbors that I work hard for my seller.

Opportunity - to get lesser priced listings, who may want to buy my listing.

Opportunity - organize my thoughts for the past and present.

Opportunity - do paperwork left untouched all week.

Opportunity - plan for tomorrow and next weeks open house.

It is all about attitude. I go to an open house expecting someone to attend. I go there with a good attitude and I plan to put my best foot forward for both myself and my seller.

With my Attitude, do you think I will catch something besides a FISH?

FAMOUS BARN IN HANCOCK COUNTY, INDIANA

Shirley Soforic: Real Estate Agent in Carmel, IN

BUT IT'S NOT FAMOUS TO EVERYONE

I HAVE SEEN THIS BARN OVER 30,000 TIMES, AS I LEAVE MY NEIGHBORHOOD EVERYDAY, SOMETIMES TWICE A DAY FOR THE LAST 38 YEARS.

I AM NEW TO BLOGGING, AND EVEN NEWER TO INSERTING HTMLS IN MY BLOG. I KEPT ASKING MYSELF, WHAT IS THERE TO BLOG ABOUT IN MY AREA. SO I STARTED LOOKING AROUND, AND THE FIRST THINGI I SAW WAS THE BARN. THEN I BEGAN REMEMBERING ALL THE FUN THINGS I HAVE WATCHED THERE OVER THESE MANY YEARS. I REMEMBER WELL THE FAMILY OF RED FOXES AS THE MOTHER RAISED HER BABIES THERE. I SAW THE FERRELL CATS LIVING INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE BARN. MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER AND I TOOK THEM FOOD OFTEN. AND OF COURSE THERE WERE THE HORSES. I ALMOST FORGOT OUR RESIDENT HAWK, WHO SITS ON THE UTILITY WIRES WAITING FOR A MEAL.

BARN IN HANCOCK COUNTY INDIANA

FOR YEARS, THERE WAS A SINGLE HORSE THAT STAYED IN THE FIELD AND WAS HOUSED IN THE BARN. I ALWAYS NOTICED IF SHE WAS OUT OR IN, AND WHERE SHE WAS IN THE FIELD. WHEN I COULDN'T SEE HER, I WONDERED WHERE SHE WAS. ONE DAY SHE HAD A COLT. MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE SO HAPPY THAT SHE HAD FINALLY HAD A COMPANION.

FAMOUS HANCOCK COUNTY BARN

HE STAYED UNTIL HE GREW UP AND THEN SHE WAS ALONE AGAIN. NOT KNOWING THE STORY, WE FELT SORRY FOR OUR HORSE. THEN WHAT SEEMED LIKE A FEW YEARS HE MAGICALLY APPEARED AGAIN, AND HAS BEEN THERE EVER SINCE.

OF COURSE, IT IS JUST A BARN. BUT IT HAS A LIFE OF ITS OWN AND ITS OWN STORY TO THOSE WHO WATCH EVERYDAY.
