Along Capitol Avenue in Indy, from Georgia Street to Maryland Street, they’re cheering for the zip line. Billed as the largest temporary zip line in the U.S., the attraction has become the focal point of the Super Bowl Village

Zipline anyone? what you can't see are the office workers 4 stories up in adjacent buildings that were distracted by the zipline riders this week LOL

Indianapolis Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell Walk/Run December 10th, 2011

Indianapolis Jingle Bell RunWe are now officially 12 days away from the 23rd Annual Jingle Bell run here in Indy. The streets of downtown Indianapolis will be filled by the sounds of bells jingling on approximately 3,500 people registered to run/walk this years' event.

Many people believe arthritis only affects those who are aging....Not so. Take Sarah Hake, this year's Arthritis Honoree. Sarah is just 26 years old, but was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the young age of two.

There's still time to register for the race and raise some money to help this foundation out. Fees are as follows:

Race Fees

Adults (13 years and older)
$22 per person on or before October 31
$25 per person November 1 - noon on December 7
$30 per person on packet pick-up and event day

Children (12 years and younger)
$12 per person on or before October 31
$15 per person November 1 - noon on December 7
$20 per person on packet pick-up and event day

I'll be there volunteering (my first year for this particular event) and cheering everyone on. If you'd like to register for this year's race, you can do so by clicking on this link.

Military Park Indianapolis Indiana

Military Park has the distinction of being the oldest of the many parks in Indianapolis. Originally named "Military Ground," it was founded in 1820. Used for military training during the Black Hawk War, it was the site of the Indiana State Fair for many years, up until 1863.

This 14-acre property was an important encampment for Union soldiers during the Civil War, when it was called "Camp Sullivan."

In the years immediately following the Civil War, the grounds were gradually upgraded to a rustic park-like setting, with a pool, a playground, a fountain and the pavilion that remains proudly standing in the park. The area was shortly thereafter renamed "Camp Sullivan Park."

With the advent of two World Wars, frivolities such as parks were somewhat neglected. It wasn't until 1980 that what is now called "Military Park" received a large infusion of money and attention, whereupon it became part of the great White River State Park.

The Shelter House at Military Park underwent a major renovation to the tune of $700,000 in 2007. The park is home to frequent and ongoing Indianapolis events, including festivals, Indianapolis music concerts and other large public gatherings.

The Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial, one of the most impressively stirring memorials of its kind in the state of Indiana and even in the entire country, is located on the south side of the park. Military Park is a registered Historic District and has a listing in the United States Register of Historic Places.
