Rockport is the county seat of Spencer County, Indiana. It was first settled in 1808 and became the county seat in 1818. The current courthouse was built in the 1920s.
Spencer County has a population of approximately 20,000 and covers 400 square miles. Rockport has a population of approximately 2,000.
Rockport, Indiana is now connected to Kentucky by the newly constructed "William-Natcher Memorial Bridge", which is a beautiful expansion bridge.

For all you history buffs this year will be the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birthday. As part of the celebration a re-enactment of Lincoln's flatboat trip down the Ohio River is scheduled. On Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 Lincoln's Journey of Remembrence will depart from Rockport, Indiana following a send-off celebration that will begin at 11 a.m.
The replica flatboat that will be used in this re-enactment of his 1828 trip is already in Rockport, Indiana. The flatboat and it's crew will journey down the Ohio River to New Orleans, Louisiana. There will be stops in 18 cities in 8 states during the 26 day voyage to New Orleans. For more information you can log onto lincolnsjourney.org
