Bonnycastle
Located in the highlands just off Cherokee Park is the famous Bonnycastle neighborhood. It is contained by Bardstown Road, Cherokee Road, Eastern Parkway, and Speed Ave. The subdivision is only minutes away from downtown Louisville and is close to some of Louisville's best local shopping and restaurants. Its homes are in high demand and the area houses one of the Derby's most grand parties known as the Barnstable Brown Party. To see some of these fine homes click here.
The neighborhood is named after the Bonnycastle family who owned a large estate there. The subdivision was developed by a well known landscaper in the late 1800's who had plans to use Eastern Parkway to connect Cherokee Park with Irquois Park and Shawnee Park according to the Courier Journal. As trolley service expanded into the Bardstown Road area, the demand for real estate greatly increased in the area. An old real estate brochure describe the area as "lush, country living."
In the spring of 1974, a tornado caused major change in the area when it came through and smashed large historic homes and large trees. Investors began buying property and building apartments. A home owners association was soon formed that aimed at protecting the character in the area.
Today the area hosts high end condos and historic homes. Even in 2008 and 2009, the area has experienced a more stable market more so than almost anywhere else in Louisville. If you would like to view any property available for sale in the area contact The Vince Carter Team.
