Louisville Trader Joes Well after about a year of discussions, anticipation and construction- Louisville Ky finally gets it very own Trader Joes. The new location in the St. Mathews area of Louisville opened last week and the lines were out the door-so I drove on by waiting for a better (and less crowded) opportunity to stop by and see what all the fuss is about. The history of Trader Joes is well documented- a unique concept of the corner market started in the 1950's. I does seem that every community wants one- I know Louisville did as almost 500 people joined the Facebook page 'Bring Trader Joes to Louisville.'

I finally bit the bullet and went to the store Monday and was pleasantly surprised. It was still crowded and the shelves were a little bare- but as a former retail person I completely understand why. The one thought that I came away with is that despite the crowds, the stress, and the pressure with opening- the staff was great. I did not buy any food products but did pick up a bottle of wine for the tidy sum of $3.17 with tax included. The gentleman that waited on me took his time talking to me, explaining why the wine is so cheap and giving me a few seconds of the history. I felt good about my visit.

I will go back and shop for some food products when it slows a bit more. The staff was great, good jobs for Louisville and a friendly place.

St. Matthews, Louisville’s largest shopping district, is filled with excitement day and night. Over the last few years the neighborhood has continued to grow its nightlife and it is more popular than ever. Most of the nightlife in St. Matthews takes place along Shelbyville Road and Breckenridge Lane, and some of the most popular locations are: Molly Malone’s Irish Pub, Drakes, Brendan’s, and the Bluegrass Brewing Company. Most of the bars and clubs have drink specials during the week and offer some form of entertainment on the weekends. Quite a few of the buildings that house are newer or renovated and have a luxurious feel. It will be difficult to find many hole-in-the wall bars in St. Matthews.

The thing that sets this St. Matthews’ nightlife apart is that it is very upscale compared to other area locations. The Highlands offers a more artistic scene, and Fourth Street and downtown Louisville tend to be a much younger crowd drawn to more mainstream, commercial entertainment.

So if you are looking for a fun night out without being over the top, St. Matthews is the place. Women tend to dress business casual and many men are in suits or also business casual. This is due to the thriving professional demographic that is in St. Matthews. It is a great place for low-key bachelorette parties, dinner and drinks after work, or a meet up for old friends.
