Last night began the parties around Louisiana that will continue well into Mardi Gras in cities like New Orleans and Baton Rouge and beyond celebrating the New Orleans Saints win at the Super Bowl last night. Those of us here often take for granted that everyone doesn't know the history behind how things get started. In one of my blog comments Gloria Todor shared that she googled "Who Dat Nation" and found an interesting overview in Wikipedia's Who Dat?. It gives the history from swamp music to comedy routines.
This chant originated in the 1800's and early 1900's. While there are several claims to the origin of the chant being used collectively by the 'Who Dat Nation", one claim comes right from my town of Baton Rouge. Some claim it began with Southern University fans in the late 1960's using the chant "Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Jags". Southern's nicknamed the Jaguars. Whatever the origin, it has now become a Louisiana wide song celebrating their Saints as SuperBown champians and the come back of the city of New Orleans as well as the state of Louisiana.
Governor Jindal shares that the Who Dat Nation is an example of the hope and perseverence thruout the State of Louisiana. Louisiana is strong and growing, from the capital city of Baton Rouge thru the Saints hometown of New Orleans.

What's a Red Stick? Have you ever wondered about that moniker?
RED STICK is the English translation of the French words ... Rouge Baton.
And there you have it ... a nickname for the city called Baton Rouge.
The city was named back in 1699 when French explorers saw a red cypress tree marking the boundary between two tribal hunting grounds. The tree was called "le baton rouge."
While I expect that most people living around this area will be familiar with this little bit of history, I thought it could be fun to explain how our Keller Williams Realty office came by our franchise name. Our Zachary, LA, office is Keller Williams Realty Red Stick Plus.
Red Stick is a prevalent title for all types of ventures in the city:
