Just Stopping by......The Pike Place Market, Seattle, Washington

Louise Thaxton #6 in Nation for VA Loans 866-960-9115 VA FHA USDA Louisiana Loans: Loan Officer in Bossier City, LA

This past week I had the opportunity to attend the Building Champion's annual business coaching event, "The Experience", at Suncadia Resort at Cle Elum, Washington. The agenda for myself and two friends attending the retreat included flying into Seattle and then traveling by car to the resort. However, before leaving Seattle, we took the time to "stop by" and visit the famous Pike Place Market - what a treat!

Saw (and ate!) some great food!

And peaches...YUM!

Saw some interesting sights....!

and more.......

So.....we had fun at the Pike Place Market "Experience" BEFORE we got to the Building Champion's "Experience"!

Sometimes you just never know the enjoyment you will have .....when you are just "stopping by"!

Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?

Louise Thaxton #6 in Nation for VA Loans 866-960-9115 VA FHA USDA Louisiana Loans: Loan Officer in Bossier City, LA

I think this song by Alan Jackson says it all for me....."Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)" and the most important portion of the song "Faith, hope and love are some good things He gave us....And the greatest is love...."

Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Were you in the yard with your wife and children
Or working on some stage in L.A.?
Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke
Risin' against that blue sky?
Did you shout out in anger, in fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry?

Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below?
Did you burst out in pride for the red, white and blue
And the heroes who died just doin' what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters?

[Chorus:]
I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell
you the difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, hope and love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Were you teaching a class full of innocent children
Or driving down some cold interstate?
Did you feel guilty 'cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone?
Did you call up your mother and tell her you loved her?
Did you dust off that Bible at home?

Did you open your eyes, hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep?
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Or speak to some stranger on the street?
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Or go out and buy you a gun?
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns?

Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers
Did you stand in line and give your own blood?
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love?

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell
you the difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, hope and love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is love
And the greatest is love.
And the greatest is love.

Tropical Storm Lee Cost Me 3000 Points - But the RAIN from Lee is Better Than the Points!

Louise Thaxton #6 in Nation for VA Loans 866-960-9115 VA FHA USDA Louisiana Loans: Loan Officer in Bossier City, LA

I was excited to begin the September 30 Localism challenge on Active Rain. I thought it would be both fun and challenging to post daily blogs about the local area AND get an extra 3000 points! Well, I DID get two posts done:

#1 - Second Largest Employer in the State 9/1/11

#2 - So You're a Leader? 9/2/11

And then I lost my satellite internet service.........

In the community where I live, we have endured one of the the most severe droughts in years. While many people in the nation are concerned about more flood waters, residents in West Central Louisiana, were hoping for just a couple of inches of rain to relieve the parched pasture land - home of many cattle and horses.

My husband comes from a family of cattlemen, so not just our family- but many other family businesses have been suffering because of the lack of rain.

Grandchildren on our hay! In fact, many cattlemen in these areas of drought have had to sell their entire cattle herds (their businesses) because the lack of rain resulted in havving no hay to feed the cattle through the winter. My husband has delayed selling his herd ............hoping, praying. Here are my grandchildren on some hay my husband grew LAST year!

When we heard that Tropical Storm Lee was brewing and might be headed our way.......The "threat" of several inches of rain was more of a PROMISE to us!

I knew that Tropical Storm Lee would be special because we have 4 very special "Lee's" in our family. This is Jason and Josey Lee, my two youngest grandchildren....

And here are their parents, Beth and Dustin Lee.....my daughter and her husband.

The 3.015 inches (measured at our house) of that much needed and prayed for rain in Florien, Louisiana, has been like heaven to us and we have been shouting Hallelujah's for two days!

Living in a rural area has many benefits. But one of the downsides is this - when it rains, our satellite internet service goes down .........

So...while the RAIN (and loss of internet service) kept me from posting on ACTIVE Rain for two days, and I will miss the opportunity for the extra points in the "September 30 day localism challenge", it was a true BLESSING to receive this much needed rainfall in my home town! (And YES, I DID have "withdrawal symptoms" from AR!)

Good luck to the rest of my fellow Rainers in the 30 Day Localism Challenge! I will continue to post because of the HUGE benefit of localism posts - and I will miss that 3000 points! But I am loving the results of the three inches of RAIN in my community.

Kindergarten? They didn't have "Kindergarten" at my school! So Here's My Story of First Grade!

Louise Thaxton #6 in Nation for VA Loans 866-960-9115 VA FHA USDA Louisiana Loans: Loan Officer in Bossier City, LA

In 1959, there was no Kindergarten class available at the the small rural school I attended! This is actually a picture of me a little younger than Kindergarten age. My first year of school was First Grade.

We bought "cokes" (which was NOT limited to Coca Cola products) for six cents at the vending machine in the school hall at recess........

We sat in great desks.......one of which I purchased for my home when the old school was torn down!

We read about Alice and Jerry and their perfect lives and wondered why ours wasn't..... Just before my Mother died, she purchased this antique copy of "Friendly Village" for me as a Christmas gift! She knew I would love it!

And my first grade teacher knew how to use a ruler VERY well - just NOT for measuring! It was years before I knew that it was not instrument of pain. Although I got whacked on the palms of my hands more than once for talking, it had no serious long term effects on me other than to teach me respect for teachers and their authority - which is not a bad thing!

But you know the cool thing about living and going to school in a small rural town in Louisiana? Most of the children I started school with in 1959......we graduated from Florien High School together twelve years later! And this year we celebrate our 40 year reunion!

Wordless Wednesday: Psalms 104:24

Sunset over Toledo Bend

O Lord, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all; the earth is full of thy riches.

Psalms 104:24

All we have to do is look around us to see the fingerprints of God all over this earth. It's Wonderful Wednesday! What are you going to do with this beautiful day that God has given you? When the sun sets... will you hear that familiar voice say to you "well done my good and faithful servant"? It is my prayer that you do. Blessings!
