Adjacent to the DeQuincy Train Museum is the DeQuincy City Park. During the school year the DeQuincy Train Museum is a popular destination for field trips. Trains and a nice park with playground equipment is a winning combination for the City of DeQuincy!

Nichols in DeQuincy, Louisiana:A Dry Goods Store Unlike Any Other

Nichols in DeQuincy, Louisiana:A Dry Goods Store Unlike Any Other

I recently posted a Blog on the City of DeQuincy, Louisiana and how this small town reminded me of Mayberry.

Part II of my visit to DeQuincy, LA is my discovery of Nichols in DeQuincy. Nichols is a dry goods store that has been in business since 1914. If you didn't know about this little gem of a store you would drive right past it. The exterior looks like a very old hardware store

and actually it reminds me of the general store run by Sam Drucker in the old Green Acres TV series.

Nichols was founded in DeQuincy in 1914 and has grown with four other locations in Many, Winnfield, Leesville and Coushatta, Louisiana. This is not your ordinary store and once you step foot inside you will see what makes Nichols so unique.

As these interior photos show, there are aisles of home-yard decor, LSU items as well as sporting goods for all your sportsmen! There is even a baby gift and clothing section! You will be amazed at what Nichols has to offer and can spend hours inside just going up and down each aisle. I saw everything from deer stands and fishing lures to fine interior home decor and flip flops! I left with a basket full of goodies and was able to check a baby and wedding gift off my list! Oh and did I mention that they wrapped my gifts for me because that saved me time too!

Nichols is a reason to visit DeQuincy again and I plan on going back to check out what Nichols will bring home from market for the holidays this year! Expect another Blog on Nichols from me in the future!

Small Town With a Big Heart: DeQuincy, Louisiana in Calcasieu Parish

DeQuincy

DeQuincy, Louisiana is located about 20 miles North of Lake Charles and Sulphur, Louisiana. This community may be small with a population of a little over 3,000 residents however, every community always has real estate for sale! That was my purpose for recently driving up to DeQuincy. The cute cottage home I recently listed for sale in DeQuincy at 533 Corley St. has gone under contract and I traveled to DeQuincy to meet my buyers for their inspection over the weekend.

533 Corley

Many residents who live in DeQuincy work in neighboring cities (Lake Charles-DeRidder, Louisiana) and because Southwest Louisiana closely borders Texas, there are residents who commute to Orange and Port Arthur, Texas to work. Many just choose to live in the City of DeQuincy because it is a small city with charm much like Main Street USA across our nation.

Mayberry

As a matter of fact DeQuincy kind of reminds me of the of the TV Show Mayberry RFD and I keep expecting to see characters like Sheriff Taylor, Barney, Goober, Floyd the Barber, and Aunt Bee when I visit! (I know that they exist somewhere in the City of DeQuincy) The hot spot in DeQuincy isn't the Diner like featured in Mayberry, but rather the Dairy Queen!

DeQuincy, Louisiana is probably best known for the DeQuincy Railroad Museum. The City of DeQuincy has a big event in the Spring during the month of April where they celebrate Railroad Days. (thats the topic of another Blog post!)
