Maurice Home Sales Saw Boom in 2011

Dr. Chantal Saucier: Real Estate Agent in Lafayette, LA

Home sales in Maurice, LA, rose sharply in 2011 mainly because of new construction in the area. Of the 65 homes that have sold so far this year, 35 were new homes. Last year, only 4 homes out of the 41 homes sold were new construction.

Maurice Real Estate Market Report for 2011

There are currently 12 home sales pending, 4 of which are scheduled to close before the end of the year. That would bring the total number of sales to 69 for 2011. Nine of the 12 pending sales are also new construction (in Kirkland Estates).

Two subdivisions mostly contributed to these numbers: Kirkland Estates, which is located off of Kirk Road east of Maurice, and Victoria Manor, located off of Beau Road on the south side of the village. Victoria Manor is now completely built up with no more lots or homes available while Kirkland Estates is near full as well.

There are currently 16 homes for sale in Maurice and a few proposed constructions. Prices vary between $100,000 and $340,000. Click here to view active listings in Maurice.

Sugarcane Cutting Time in Louisiana: Be Careful on the Roads!

Dr. Chantal Saucier: Real Estate Agent in Lafayette, LA

Farmers have started to cut canes in our fields in and around Lafayette. If you are going to be on the roads, especially country roads, please use extra caution for the next few weeks.

Be careful on the roads as it is sugarcane cutting season in South Louisiana

Sugarcane trucks tend to move slowly so be careful when passing them. It has been very dry here for the past few days so dust is flying and it may reduce visibility. Not to mention that once we do get some rain, the roads will be slippery. The sugarcane industry is good for our economy so be considerate of those who make it happen!

Also, if you are traveling on Vermilion Parkway (Hwy 167) south of Maurice, they have started to resurface the road and one lane may be closed on each side. Traffic is still flowing well, just not as fast as usual.

If you are looking for land to farm cane or other crops, give me a call or send me an email. There are great properties available in the area.

I notice the sign, "Le Musée à Maurice," a few days ago while going to the post office. I was very happy to see that the old Villien Bros building will be brought back to life.

Le Musée à Maurice, Maurice, LA

This building used to be on Church Street behind the Villien store which had been the Maurice Flea Market for many years. The large store was torn down but this one here was moved onto Chief H. Fred Ave, across the street from the cemetery.

I haven't seen any activity around the building yet, but this morning, I was looking at the events schedule for the Grand Réveil Acadien, which starts today in the New Orleans area, and saw that they will have beignets and coffee next Friday morning here at the Musée including a beignets making demonstration. It starts at 8am October 14th. Hope to see some of you there. I know I will be there!

I will post more information later about the Grand Réveil Acadien and Festivals Acadiens & Creoles next weekend.
