Sasol Chemical Complex in Westlake LA Announces Industry Expansion

Sasol Chemical Complex in Westlake Louisiana is growing!

The Lake Charles Sasol Chemical Complex previously announced construction of a $175 million ethylene tetramerization unit in December, and that project is under way.

Govenor Bobby Jindal made a major announcement today that could result in the largest economic development for Southwest Louisiana. Sasol is reviewing a project is currently in an 18 mo feasibility study. However, Govendor Jindal indicated he is confident that Southwest Louisiana will be selected as the facility location.

Sasol has selected Calcasieu Parish as the location for a potential gas to liquid complex bringing an estimated 8-10 billion revenue, 850 direct jobs with average salaries of about $89,000. 4,000 indirect jobs would be associated with the project, so the total impact would be nearly 5,000 jobs for Southwest Louisiana!

The Sasol Lake Charles Chemical Complex in Westlake Louisiana currently employess 400. The Sasol Westlake LA facility is located next to the Westlake Louisiana ConocoPhillips petroleum refinery.

This is good news for Southwest Louisiana. The Sasol Chemical Complex expansion will not only create jobs for Southwest Louisiana residents, this industry expansion will stimulate the economy of Calcasieu Parish. More jobs and good salaries will also stimulate Lake Charles Real Estate.

The creation of 850 direct jobs will likely bring new residents and relocate Sasol managers to Southwest Louisiana and Lake Charles. Relocation with industry is something that is not uncommon here in Calcasieu Parish.
