About Boston's Brighton

Moving day in Boston

Melissa Ostrom & Melville Capps Newton MA - The Mel and Mel Team: Real Estate Agent in Newton, MA
Moving day in Boston

September 1st is moving day in Boston for thousands of students. On the afternoon of September 1st I was driving east from Newton MA into Boston on the Mass Turnpike. In Boston there is a split in the road at the toll booth. To the left is the toll booth and exit for Cambridge and Brighton. To the right the Pike continues into Boston.

Traffic was a mess. The Pike was backed up for about a mile before the toll booth, and was moving at a snail’s pace. As I passed by the line of vehicles waiting to exit at the Cambridge and Brighton exit I noticed something unusual. Most of the vehicles were moving trucks, pickup trucks filled with furniture, cars with mattresses tied to their roofs, and cars with their front and back seats filled with boxes and household items.

I just smiled when I realized that the traffic was students moving. Cambridge and Brighton are heavily populated with students. I also noticed that most of the vehicles were going through the slow cash only lane instead of the automated Fast Lane. That’s because they are from out of town and don’t have a Fast Lane transponder yet.

Boston College Student Housing

Dave Brose: Real Estate Agent in Boston, MA

Boston College student housing , the big question always is should I be on or off campus? It really depends on you here is some info about life at Boston College that will help you decide whether you want to be in Boston College student housing on campus or off campus. Boston College does more than simply train students for careers. The school has a religious set of ideals that encourage students to become an influence for good in society. Boston College’s courses come with heavy workloads so some prefer to be in on campus Boston College student housing . Class sizes vary by major and level. Some intro classes huge , but the upper level classes are smaller, often with a size of only 20. Students say most professors make an effort to provide one-on-one attention outside of class and build personal relationships with students. The academic atmosphere continues outside of class, but students say conversations aren't all philosophical BC students have intellectual conversations outside of the classroom, but they have just as many conversations about celebrity gossip. Many students say they wish that Boston College were home to a more diverse student body. Some also state that the Jesuit administration can be narrow mined in certain areas. The University canceled a GLC dance a few years back, and there are some big-wigs at BC who fear that by including sexual orientation in the non-discriminatory clause, alumni and donors will stop giving funds to the school Even though students are only a "T" ride away from the center of Boston, so being in off campus Boston College student housing is very easy and convenient.many stay on campus for nightly social offerings. The Mods are the most popular dorms that form the heart of the on campus social scene and are the top choice on campus of seniors. Underclassmen commonly party off campus, and there are nearby bars for those wanting to head out on the town. While many students enjoy this brand of revelry, BC offers frequent alcohol-free activities as an alternative. One characteristic BC lacks is a Greek system; however, most say this is a positive quality. There is no Greek life, but that is one of BC's strongest qualities. People are more apt to branch out and party with different groups or friends. For extracurricular activities, students join heritage groups, singing clubs, comedy troupes, and the ever-popular intramural sports teams. Eagles football season is a vibrant part of college life, and students have immense pride in their school. All in all, students who come here love their experience and walk away with a stellar education as well as a social foundation for the future.Hopefully this makes it easier for you to decide the right type of Boston College student housing

Know Your Market: Brighton, Massachusetts Market Statistics

Mark Madden | The Madden Team: Real Estate Agent in Watertown, MA

In an effort to be knowledgebale of our current market, I weekly pull the market statistics in Watertown, Belmont, Arlington, Newton, Waltham, Brighton and Allston. Below are the market statistics in Brighton, Massachusetts for Single Families, Condominiums and Multi-Families. I will be posting Brighton, MA market statistics weekly on Wednesdays.

As you can see there has been depreciation year-to-date in all the housing categories, but it is not as bad as the media would have you believe. The sharpest decline has been in multi-familes, which has dropped 6% since 2007. However, the multi-families are still selling at about the same pace as last year which can not be said for single families and condominiums.

Inventory is down in all three housing categories with the largest decline being in single family dwellings. If someone is looking to sell, then now may be the time because competition in down and there are buyers still out there looking.
