About Cambridge's Porter Square

15 Upland Road Condos - Porter Square Cambridge Years ago, until the mid-90s, Cambridge had rent control. During that time my friend Emily rented for a bit at 15 Upland Road. The apartments were called "railroad flats" - each rundown room opened off the one before - a chain of rooms. But the rent was cheap and the location couldn't be beat.

In 1999 the six-unit building was sold. After a gut renovation transformed the building it was sold as condos in 2000. Railroad flats no more, the condominiums are thoroughly modern and beautifully finished.

There are six two-bedroom condos on three floors at 15 Upland Road. The condominiums have an open layout, granite and stainless kitchens, central air conditioning, and marble baths.

15 Upland Road is in the heart of Porter Square. The Red Line T stop and commuter rail are across the street and there are a variety of shops, restaurants, pubs, gyms and more just outside your door.

Head around the corner for drinks and some music at Toad or have dinner at Elephant Walk. In the morning you can work it off at Healthworks (for women) or Bally (for everybody).

There are enough restaurants within walking distance that you just might be able to have dinner at a different one every day for a month or more. But if you're eating at home you've got Shaw's (aka Star Market) across the street for groceries.

The most recent sale at 15 Upland Road was in 2007 when a condo sold for $415,000.
