Sail Boston 2009 = wicked cool ships

Kat Malone, CAM: Real Estate - Other in Charlestown, MA

I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this, but it's definitely being added to my list of things to do! Ships competing in the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge will be porting here July 8-12. The types of ships range from the Topsail Schooner to the Tree-masted Schooner to the the Full-rigged Ship. There are public boarding times on each day- 5pm-10pm Thursday and Friday and 5pm-8pm Friday and Saturday. They'll be at the Charlestown Navy Yard, Seaport World Trade Center and Fishpier.

There's also a festival on Friday at Downtown Crossing around noon, among other events. It's all free- even better!

Below are two of the ships that came last year. Check out Sail Boston '09 for more info!

I'm supposed to work with this outside my window?

Kat Malone, CAM: Real Estate - Other in Charlestown, MA

I had the past two days off and they were dreary and cold. Well, I say cold. I'm expecting to walk into a heat shield of 85o with 95% humidity down south. Instead the day I go into the city it's in the 60's and looks like it's going to pour any second. At least the rain is warm back home, unlike here!

Now that I'm back in the office it's nice and mid-70's. Of course :) But I'm not complaining- I've got the windows wide open and a great breeze coming in that oddly enough doesn't smell at all like the ocean. Boy I'm gonna miss this when it gets cold....

Modern Pastry- worth a visit!

Kat Malone, CAM: Real Estate - Other in Charlestown, MA

I first visited Modern Pastry last summer after a company dinner in the North End (Boston). Let me just take this moment to say, you don't find stuff like this back in Virginia! It was just like stepping back into Europe. Between the gelati, fruity concoctions, cheesecake (my weakness), cannolis, cookies... yeah I think the first time there I bought half the shop. At least it seemed like it.

Now that I live a 10-15 minute walk from it, I go there pretty frequently. Their creme brule is to die for. :) If you're in the area, definitely stop over and check them out. They're tasty and reasonably priced!

Bunker Hill Parade!

Kat Malone, CAM: Real Estate - Other in Charlestown, MA

Our leasing office opens at 12 and the parade started at 12:30. I told our other leasing agent that I would probably step out to take a few pictures. They closed Charlestown at 11am and blocked the road that leads to our office. Needless to say, we closed until 2 and we were able to see the entire parade.

I'm pretty sure we saw about 18 different candidates running for either Council or Mayer, 8 bag pipe companies, 4 drum and bulge corps.... it was a long parade, but fun! The gathering point for everyone in the parade was down at the Navy Yard, on 1st street, so as I was walking to the parade I got a sneak peak of everyone that was coming up.

All this week on talk radio, they've been saying Bunker Hill day is just a holiday for the union workers. I don't really care- I liked the parade :)

I really want to know how to join one of these period groups, I'd love to get dressed up for stuff like this!

This parade happened about .3mi from Harborview at the Navy Yard, Charelstown's premier waterfront living!
