A New Facility may be in store for The Cohasset Sailing Club!

William Tierney: Real Estate Agent in Cohasset, MA

The Cohasset Sailing Club which recently celebrated its 50th Aniversary last season, is about to embark on a major over haul to its facilities. As I noted in a previous post, a new club house is in the works for the Cohasset Sailing Club.

By was of reference the Cohasset Sailing Club is a community based organization whose charge is to provide the townspeople of Cohasset, and children in particular but not exclusively, with an affordable opportunity to learn and practice sailing. Over the last 50+ years, countless Cohasset Residents have learned to sail and began life long love affair with the sport. And who knows how many fond memories linger out there of summers gone by on the water, memories that stay with with you beyond the borders of Cohasset.

Recent years at the Cohasset Sailing Club have been some of the best in its history when it comes to enrollment. The Club is at or near record enrollment for both the youth and adult sailing programs. This is both the good news and the bad news. The recent success have made the club out grow its current facility. The club house that was built in 1979 no longer offers the space needed for neither the class sizes, nor storage of the equipment. The systems in the club house are also in need of an upgrade from the roof, to the electrical, to the plumbing. After an exhaustive study, it was determined that it would be less expensive to simply start anew with a facility that could keep out with current demand. And so, plans have been recently approved by the various town boards to rebuild a new "Green" club house. The building will be the towns first LEED (Leadership in Environmental Energy Design) registered building.

With approvals in Hand the leadership of the Cohasset Sailing Club is now in the early stages of a fund raising campaign to raise the nearly $500,000 needed for the new club house. All donations will be tax deductable, and if you choose to support the campaign, there is a link below that assist you in your genorsity as well as educate you on the goals of the club.

On March 12 there will be a fundraising party at the Atlantica Restaurant from 7:30 to 11:30 PM, and I hope to see you there.

Sandy Beach Cohasset - A True Community Treasure

William Tierney: Real Estate Agent in Cohasset, MA

AS I sit here today watching the tail end of a Nor'easter dump a foot of show across New England, I long for the warm summer breezes of months to come. While I could sit here and write on for a good bit about the many fine homes for sale in Cohasset, I thought it better to warm some minds with an educational piece about Cohasset's Sandy Beach. Cohasset, MA is a premier community located on Massachusetts Bay about 20 miles South of Boston. Along the coast, and nearly the center point of town is a stretch a of beach sandwiched between granite rock outcroppings left from a glacial deposit. This beach is known as 'Sandy Beach".

sandy beach

What makes sandy beach so special is its highly family friendly atmosphere. On any given sunny weekend end day you will see countless families flock to the beach to enjoy the coast. With the beach book ended by rocks at each end toddlers cannot wander off. Lifeguards watch the water and the folks swimming in it. It offers a great sense of security.

Sandy Beach is the best kept secret, and best real estate marketing ploy all wrapped in one. The beach itself is privately owned by a land trust set up long ago by a now departed member of the community who wanted to insure access to the water for all the towns residents. The beach is open to the public, however the parking lot is not. Since the Town of Cohasset maintains the parking lot, one needs a town parking sticker to park in the lot, or risk a $200 parking ticket. The town does offer 300 non-resident parking stickers in a lottery each year. The beach is maintained by a non-profit group called The Sandy Beach Association (SBA). The Sandy Beach Association is volunteer group of eight residents. The SBA is charged with maintaining the beach and staffing it with nearly 13 life guards, and 28 beach maintenance workers.

While the beach is largely used by the local Cohasset folks, it is a true treasure to enjoy. It remains a one of the many unique selling points to a town lucky to have countless reasons to make Cohasset your home. I so look forward to my next visit to Sandy Beach, and I am forever grateful to have such and asset in my backyard at my disposal.
