Sandwich, MA has some of the best real estate on Cape Cod, MA. An area that’s very special and uniquely Cape Cod is Old County Rd. in East Sandwich. This truly spectacular road stretches east off RT 6A in East Sandwich just across from the post office and meanders through the trees, bogs, around marshes (behind Scorton Creek), farms and homes that give the area its charm and beauty. The road exits back onto RT 6A in West Barnstable where it becomes High St. The road is also accessed from Exit 4 off the Mid-Cape Highway heading north off the exit. But it should be entered from the East Sandwich side of RT 6A or in West Barnstable for maximum impact.
I lived off this old road for over 10 years and spent many hours walking, biking and driving its every turn, dip and rise. I never grow tired of being on Old County Rd. If you are lucky to find yourself on this road on a sunny day – no matter the season – you know immediately you have entered a time and place where you simply must stop, take stock of where you are and what you are experiencing.
In terms of Sandwich, MA real estate, there’s a sense of history as you drive by Grange Hall. Built in 1889, it was originally a social organization and now belongs to the Nye Family of America Association, which operates it as a community hall. Next to the Grange you can see the Benjamin Nye Homestead and Museum. Built in 1681 the house is open to the public.
I recently sold a home just off Old County Rd. on Locust Lane. The buyers got a great deal in this economy and were determined to stay in the area. Fortunately it worked out for them, as currently there are only three homes on market.
