Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Would you like to find some excellent chocolate in Jamaica Plain, MA? Well, look no further. Brad Brown, owner of the Blue Frog Bakery at 3 Green St., is here to satisfy that craving. His chocolate is one of Jamaica Plain's best kept secrets because it makes a rare appearance only twice a year: Christmas and Valentine's Day.
Am I the ultimate chocolate connoisseur? No. Do I love me some good dark chocolate? You betcha. Do I like boxes of assorted chocolates? Not usually -- until I tried the chocolate at Blue Frog Bakery.
Over Christmas, I tried one of Brad's coconut-filled chocolates. Coconut-filled chocolates are usually the first boxed chocolate I spit out. But this one wasn't filled with the usual sugar coated wad of coconut. Instead it was a slightly chewy cream filling with the subtle taste of coconut. Melt in your mouth deliciousness.
Then I tried his maple-filled chocolate. Yes, that's the other flavor I almost always spit out. But this was a light mousse flavored with maple that just slid down your palate.
As I write this, he is busily preparing this year's Valentine's Day collection of tasty morsels. In addition to an assortment of delicious chocolate, Brad will also be offering a selection of pate de fruit. All of this will be available starting this Saturday, February 11th.
Chocolate: 4-piece box ($5) or 9-piece heart shaped box ($15)
Dark chocolate orange ganache; milk chocolate hazelnut; chocolate fondant; strawberry jelly; cranberry almond marzipan
Pate de fruit: (the pricing and packaging isn't set yet)
mango ginger; strawberry; raspberry; passion fruit
Jamaica Plain offers all sorts of choices for Boston area foodies. It offers great options for sweet treats. BUT if you're looking for the best chocolate in Jamaica Plain -- perhaps the only chocolate in Jamaica Plain that doesn't come in a wrapper -- Blue Frog Bakery at 3 Green St. can't be beat.

Best Bakery in Boston - Canto 6 Cafe in JP
If you've never been there - you are seriously missing on best sandwiches, croissants, baguettes and pastry you can get in Boston. If you've ever stepped in this place just once - you know what I'm talking about.
Canto 6 is a small bakery tucked in on a corner of Green street and Washington st in Jamaica Plain, close to Green Street T stop on Orange line. You really have to know it's there, it's easy to miss. It's right across the street of Police Station (if that makes it easier to find).
Once you step in you feel the divine aroma of freshly made bread and pastry. You see an array of goodies on the shelves, and it's hard to make a choice. Yet it's easy - because anything you order will be great. Mouthwatering, fresh out of the oven, irresistible, that will call your name like a Lorelei, and make you come back again, and again, and again...
Cafe has limited seating area, couple of table and a few chairs. It's best to take out, especially if you are in a rush.
Be prepared to visit this cafe early in the day - lots of stuff gets sold out around noon. To get the best selection of goodies plan to be there in the morning.
Staff is very friendly and interesting people - you'd love to become a "regular" to stop by and chat with them, while you are getting your weekly (or daily) indulgences. Said indulgences will satisfy any taste: there are puffy pies, and flaky pastries for those with sweet tooth, there are salty pieces kinked up with aged brie, there's healthy nut bread, and crusty baguettes...
On-street parking on Washington is usually easy to find, so if you plan a trip to Arboretum, or anything else in the area, or are just going to drive by - treat yourself and stop by at the Canto 6 Cafe. You'll be glad you did!

Jamaica Plain Condos
Here is classic example of some initial overpricing that has now turned into an incredible deal. Started out on the market at a VERY high price and the owners have been inching the price down over time. Unfortunately forr the sellers this means it has “fallen off the radar” for most buyers and their agents. Now its about 20k undervalued and it’s a ‘Screamin’ Deal! but people have stopped looking. I predict whoever grabs this will be getting one of the years best values in Jamaica Plain Condos
