Antique Car Show in Lincoln MA

Elizabeth Bolton - Cambridge MA Real Estate Agent: Real Estate Agent in Cambridge, MA

Every year, Historic New England (formerly SPNEA, the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities) hosts an Antique Car Show at the Codman Estate in Lincoln MA.

This antique house is the Codman Estate in Lincoln MAThe antique auto show is held in July and it's often very hot at that time of year so I don't always make it.  This year Massachusetts has had a spate of very mild days (to the dismay of some, the delight of me!) and I figured it was the perfect opportunity to revisit the car show.  It was a wonderful day!

The auto show is held at the Codman Estate, a beautiful mansion that was the summer home of   John Codman, a successful Boston merchant.  It is an absolutely lovely site for the antique autos with a number of fields on the expansive grounds - just a perfect place to stroll, sit on a stone wall, or take a rest in the shade of mature trees.

I love antique cars! I love the smell, the amazing dashboards, the way they bring me back through the decades.  If I had my druthers I would have a fleet of them. I've come to realize that the collection would have to come with a mechanic - I don't even know how to change a tire - OK - maybe I know how - sort of - but with AAA I don't have much experience. Antique auto maintenance is beyond my capabilities.

The antique auto show is a super substitute for owning my own antique fleet.  Over two hundred cars - plus some trucks and motorcycles - are spread across the fields.

There's something for everyone - early cars, lots of cars from the 30s through the 70s, even a few very special new cars. I brought my dad and my brother - and each had their favorite era.

We only wish my mother had joined us because her favorite car was there too.  As soon as I walked up to a car and saw that the interior looked like a big bed I realized I had discovered a Nash.  Some of my mother's favorite memories she's shared with us are of car camping in her grandmother's Nash.  Sure enough there were two Nashes - one even had a "sleeping" mannequin inside. You can see both of them in the slideshow below.
