Who knew?
While many of us have spent much time laboring over the wine selections for our holiday entertaining, a new and expanding offering of winter and holiday beer has been making a splash on the market!
That’s right!
Holiday cheer now includes beer!
Selections vary; spicy caramel to a light, pale ale.
And the names…
Pair your appetizers with Delirium Noel...toffee and caramel with a bit of effervescence…
De Dolle Stille Nacht…a huge flavor of apples and pears from Belgium…try it with your hearty soups and stews
Once upon a time banned in New York and Maine for reference to Santa’s booty…Santa’s Butt Porter…from the UK with a tasty chocolate malt essence…
Samichlaus...a fruity punch with malt overtones…an Austrian favorite…
And a perennial favorite as a host/hostess gift for those you’re not too fond of…Lump of Coal…bittersweet chocolate with tinges of raisins and fruit esters…
And if all this talk of holiday beer has whetted your appetite, then on Sunday, December 14th head to Cambridge to:
Holiday Beer Brunch at UpStairs on the Square
![]()
On Sunday, December 14th join proprietresses Mary Catherine Deibel and Deborah Hughes as they, in conjunction with BeerAdvocate, host a holiday beer brunch. Chef Steven Brand will be preparing a three course menu complete with Christmas breads and UpStairs on the Square’s famous eggs benedict, to pair perfectly with four separate seasonal beers. The brunch, which costs $38 per person, will be held in the Soiree Room starting at 1:00pm. Their last beer brunch was a huge success, so best to call 617.864.1933 quickly if you want to get in on the fun this time.

Everyone will soon be gathered round the dining room table, thanking whichever higher power the family subscribes to, and catching up on jobs, romances, and lives at college.
Many college students began the fall semester with a treat which in years past, was commonly presented to the teacher by their students…an apple.
Students beginning their fall semester at many of the nation’s colleges and universities, received their own apple treat…an Apple iPod of iPhone.
The use of mobile technology in higher education is in its infancy.
The uber connected generation totes laptops to classes. But many complain that because of their heaviness and bulkiness, the laptops aren’t the way most stay connected to the internet.
Cellphones are always carried. So students are looking for something lighter for constant internet access.
Into this market opportunity stepped Apple, recognizing that priming college students with iPhones, iPods, and the iPod Touch would hook young consumers with “decades of technology purchases ahead of them..."
