Cabin Fever And A Whale Of A Cure!!

Joan Mirantz- Concord New Hampshire Realtor : Real Estate Agent in Concord, NH

As I hear the weatherman predict yet another day of snow...I believe this is seven in a row...I try to relieve my cabin fever by reliving Memories of Summers Past!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a post by Lysa Napolitano, about Whale Sightings off the Florida Coast. I had commented about the fabulous sightings we had on a Whale Watch I went on some 20 plus years ago! And promised her I would resurrect my pictures. And what better time, than a Winter Day with temperatures registering 14 degrees, to recall a trip to Sunny Cape Cod cape cod in July... and a Whale Watch out of Provincetown.
We were all very excited in that this was a "first" for our small group...We had been told that the waters off Provincetown were a travel pattern for Whales and we had very high expectations! It was a beautiful day to be boats on the ocean, clear and sunny and perfect for pictures!
The boat appeared to be at capacity and off we headed to deeper waters!
Initially there were distant sightings and an occasional dolphin checked us out but nothing picture worthy! Suddenly the boat engines stopped and the Captain came on the loudspeaker. He told us to keep our eyes peeled and we would see a special sight! distant whales ...We were thrilled to spot a whale and the "blow".
Shortly after that, and close to the side of the boat, someone spotted a second sign. whale signs We all ran over to see the tell tale swirl! What appeared was
mom & child a Mom and her Calf. They started to play with us by swimming under the boat and coming up the other side.
The Captain was cautioning with great alarm as the entire group ran from one side of the boat to the other! whale
They were so close....we could smell their breath!
Playtime lasted for several hours...we were long overdue for our return!
Unfortunately though all good things must come to an end goodbye and with a goodbye flick of the tail Momma signaled her baby and off they swam into the setting sun!
leaving whales This was an incredible experience! And even though it has been many years.... the excitement and awe are with me even today. I was so privileged to see... up close... something so special and so rare! As we headed back almost two hours beyond our "3 hour tour" we were again treated to one of Natures un-duplicated miracles! sunset And it wasn't even a Sunset Cruise!!
