Edgewater is a wonderful example of the extraordinary quality of life available on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. The town is situated on the Mayo Peninsula, named after Commodore Isaac Mayo (1791-1861), captain of the USS Constitution. Just south of Annapolis, Edgewater is bordered on the north and east by the South River and on the west by the West and Rhode Rivers, and finally on the southeast by the Chesapeake Bay, one of this country’s national treasures. The historic Thomas Point Lighthouse lies just offshore in the Chesapeake at the mouth of the South River.
Edgewater is one of the finest bedroom communities for the Washington Baltimore metropolitan area. It’s a family oriented hamlet with an abundance of recreational facilities, first rate educational opportunities, immaculate neighborhoods and awesome natural beauty.
You’d expect a town surrounded on three sides by water to be a fun place to live, and you’d be right. Sailing, power boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming, diving, or just jogging on the beach at sunrise, if it involves water and fun, you’ve come to the right place. Exploring the rivers can be a full time pastime with their endless coves, nooks and crannies. More beautiful rivers you’ll never find. Well forested shorelines with partially hidden houses imbedded into the greenery make up the scenery as you cruise the waterway. And don’t forget the Chesapeake Bay, the sailing capital of the nation. Two thousand miles of shoreline to explore, fish, and sail.
Edgewater features some of Anne Arundel County’s most significant historic and archaeological sites. The Londontown Historic site is situated here for discovering. Architecturally, the town features a mix of quaint colonial style homes, elegant townhouses, contemporary estates, and large homes in the grand traditional style.
Not only is Edgewater a great place for work and play, all the amenities you might desire are here also. Fine dining, first rate entertainment, shopping, you name it, it’s here or close by. And if culture is your desire, Edgewater has its own companies that include the ballet, symphony, opera and choral groups who all give performances in nearby Annapolis. Resident artists teach and exhibit in local galleries. Thousands of students of all ages take classes in the visual and performing arts.
In the many pubs and restaurants in town, some dating back to the 18th century, music is a part of the ambiance and can be found almost any night of the week. And the traditional cuisine makes for a lovely night out on the shores of the Bay.
It’s a wonderful place to live and raise a family. (My family lived on Austin Drive - just off Beards Creek. We simply LOVED it.) You won’t believe it until you come and see… Edgewater… by the edge of the Chesapeake Bay.

Out and about Loving Edgewater
Hometown of Edgewater
If you are new to our great area or are just looking to make a move within Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, you just have to check out Edgewater. Located at what I call the gateway to the Southern end of the county, Edgewater offers small town living with lots of amenities. Edgewater is also home to Historic Londontowne, once a thriving port town on the South River.

Located 31 miles from Washington DC and 5 miles from Annapolis Edgewater is located on a peninsula bordering the South River, Rhode River and the Chesapeake Bay. Own a boat or want to? Edgewater is a great place to live the lifestyle with its easy access to numerous marinas and boat ramps. If planes instead of boats are your thing then you are in luck. Edgewater is home to a small private plane air strip called Lee Airport.
The South River area is where I grew up. Back then living in South County was considered living in the country to those city dwellers of Annapolis. But we didn't care as it also meant living at the beach.
Over the years Edgewater has become quite the grownup. Gone are the days of small beach communities hugging the shoreline with farm land bursting at its edges. Slowly Edgewater expanded over the years with the most recent growth spurt happening in the late 1990's, early 2000's. The Edgewater of today has just about every shopping convenience at your fingertips, great cultural events, deep history and roots and a fine mix of homes in all sizes and price ranges.

Whatever your lifestyle, whatever your wish, Edgewater is certainly a place to consider calling home.
