Hillsmere Shores is a lovely water privileged community just three miles from Annapolis. It sits on the stunning South River at the entrance to Quiet Waters Park. Hillsmere is a neighborhood of 1.5 square miles that began developing in the 1960s and now has about 1200 homes. Originally, it was a farm owned by Martin H. Smith, a wealthy Philadelphia physician. His 30 room mansion is now part of the exclusive, private Key School.

This beautiful neighborhood is renowned for its proximity to the Chesapeake Bay’s South River. There is a wonderfully large sandy beach with play and picnic areas and an olympic style pool. The South River is a major tributary to the Chesapeake Bay, truly one of the Nation’s treasures. And the South River is one of the Bay’s prettiest rivers. Lovely homes are nestled into a profusion of trees that line the shore. The mature trees extend into the community sheltering the entire area. Hillsmere is truly a “walking” neighborhood in a park-like setting.

A short walk will take you to Quiet Waters Park. The park offers art festivals, concerts, nature walks and children’s programs. If you desire, you can rent a canoe or a kayak on Harness Creek. But most residents in Hillsmere own their own boats which they keep at the community marina in their own boat slip.

While Hillsmere Shores may be a secluded bit of heaven, all the amenities you may require are just a short drive away. First class shopping, fine dining, outstanding entertainment, terrific schools and just about anything you need is here. And, of course, all kinds of water sports are right in your own back yard. Annapolis, right next door, is known as the sailing capital of America and it’s true. Boating, fishing, water skiing, you name it. It’s all here.

And when you feel the need for things metropolitan, don’t forget, Washington and Baltimore are less than 30 miles away.
