Brookeville, MD

Historic View of Brookeville , Montgomery County

Bruno Tarquinii, www.search4homes.us: Real Estate Agent in Silver Spring, MD

Brookeville is situated in north-eastern Montgomery County, Maryland; it is twenty miles away from Washington DC. It is historically noteworthy countryside settlement.

Do you know how it is named? No! Let me tell you. It is founded by Quakers Richard Thomas and his wife Deborah Brooke in 1794. This land is inherited to Deborah Brooke and it is named after her family name Brooke, Brookeville. Her father was the largest landowner.

Maryland General Assembly integrated the Brookeville in 1808 and appointed three town commissioners - making it the oldest integrated town in Montgomery County.

During 19th century, Brookeville was a center of education and commerce in an area that played a significant character in the progress of the discipline of agriculture. It was part of a network of liberal agronomists, including Thomas Moore, who introduced a number of advancements in farming methods that were practiced both locally and then nationwide.

Another historic importance of Brookeville is that many important

personalities like James Madison, of War of 1812, visited and taken refuge here. Moreover many old cabins like Oakley Cabin and Log Cabin of 18th and 19th century still exist on the western edge of the Brookeville.

One of the first schools of the county is established in Brookeville in1814, it was known as the Brookeville Academy, a foundation school. This shows a strong affinity and interest of the town for the education.

Currently, as a chiefly residential town, Brookeville remains an exclusive and varied assembly of historical constructions. For me it is a worth seen place.

Those who are interested in the historical structure and buildings must visit this town to tickle their soul and match their interest.

One Day at the Farm - A Thousand Photo Ops and a Flirting Goat - Sharp's at Waterford

Andrea Bedard, M.A. ~ Realtor® & Mil Spouse ~ Silver Spring, MD and beyond: Real Estate Agent in Silver Spring, MD

It was indeed a chilly weekend in Central Maryland but we made it a fabulous one! It didn't rain and that made all the difference during our visit to Sharp's at Waterford Farm in Brookeville, MD.

In a nutshell Sharp's at Waterford Farm is: hay-rides to the pumpkin patch, a corn maze, farm animals (a flirting goat among others - he was totally smiling at me and posing for pictures!), scare-crow making, gorgeous scenery and super-friendly staff. It's not as popular crowded than other farms in the area which we loved.

Sharp's at Waterford Farm presented me with a thousand incredible photo ops and it was very hard to just pick out a few! I hope you'll enjoy!
