In January I posted Love where you live.....and talk & write about it too. (Part One ~ Ellicott City, MD) , so this is Part Two, which is dedicated to Catonsville where I currently reside.

Catonsville is where I took that first "Big Girl Step" into home ownership shortly after starting my career in Real Estate. I was not even looking for a home on the day when I found the perfect property for me. I was heading to an Open House in Catonsville to drop off paperwork to an agent I was currently in a transaction with. It was love at first sight. I put in a full priced offer with an escalation clause. (It was the start of the multiple offer frenzy)

Discovering Catonsville has always been a joy. It has wonderful, historic neighborhoods to walk through with every shape of home imaginable- small and large! (I love looking at homes even when I am not "on the clock") Friendly neighbors always wave and say hello. Although it's a suburb of Baltimore City, it feels like an intimate community.


There is a small, yet interesting commercial district that offers eclectic stores such as Bill's Music, a medical supply shop, Atwaters Bakery and Cy's which has tuxedo rental and swim wear! There are plenty of great restaurants to choose from in all different price ranges: The Catonsville Gourmet, The Ships Cafe and El Nayar to name but a few.

There are year round events for all ages in Catonsville. There is always something to look forward to.

In short, there is always something to write about in "the 'ville"!

Sometimes good things come out of bad situations- Today was one of those.

A chore that I have being putting off for the longest time was washing my truck. It is no fun in the winter and usually a good car wash is followed by a couple inches of snow- which I did not want.

I couldn't hold out any longer, so my son and I headed to "Catonsville Car Wash" on Route 40 for a "self service wash". My junior helper did not last long so he got back in the truck to watch his movie while he waited. Soaped, washed and waxed later I was all done and on my way.....or so I hoped. The DVD player had drained the battery and the car was dead!!

There were many other people there washing their car, so I asked a few if they had jumper cables. One chap found some in the back of his trunk, but refused to help me with a jump. I went from car to car to see if anyone else could help me and no-one was willing. The last man I asked agreed right away and drove his car up to the self service bay to help me. Unfortunately the cables were too short, so he apologized and backed the car up. I then went to ask other people if they could help- still no one was willing to assist. So much for helping a damsel in distress!

I had finally resorted to calling "AAA" when my Knight in shining armor.....Mercedes came back over. He had been watching my fruitless search. He said he was going to walk down the road to see if he could borrow a special boosting gadget from another business. (I'm a girl, I have no idea what it was called)

To cut a long story short he came back and gave me the juice I needed to get going again. I had nothing else with me, so I gave him my business card and asked him to e-mail me with his address so I could send him a thank you. Then he said "You're a REALTOR? My wife and I are getting ready to list our home and buy a new one, can you help us with that?"

I am really glad that no-one else could help me today!

Private Elementary Middle School Open House near Catonsville, MD January 29,2012

Many schools host Spring and Winter Open Houses to allow prospective parents and students to see the school, get a feel for the program and meet some current faculty, staff and parents.

There are two private school open houses in Catonsville, Maryland this weekend.

Home Residential Resale Statistics -- December 2011

December in Catonsville was a good one with sales volume increasing a little over 25% when compared to 2010. This is the result of both the number of units sold as well as the average sales price seeing increases. However, with almost 30% less active listings on the market than last year, homes are averaging 11 more days on the market than in December of 2010.

Happy New Year 2012

2012 has finally arrived which means that the holidays are now officially over and all the Christmas decorations need to be packed away. In my household we always have a live tree and this year to took a trip out to Gaver Tree Farm in Mount Airy with client friends to find one. We picked out and then cut down the prettiest Canaan Fir tree of all.......for a lot less than buying a tree pre cut. It was a great fun afternoon with hot chocolate, plenty of exercise, lots of laughter and a couple of great trees tied to the roof of the truck....with a little help..

The tree brightened up our home through December and also made the room smell like Christmas- (My 5 year old's words, not mine!)

Now it's time to say farewell.

Baltimore County trash collectors will pick up Christmas trees for recycling during a two-week period in January.

The rules for getting your tree picked up are simple:

• Set out the tree only. No bags or decorations or tree stands.
• Trees must be left in front of the house.

Collectors will pick up the trees during a two-week period beginning Jan. 10. To ensure they pick up your tree they must be set out at the curb no later than Jan. 15 to be picked up the following week.

The trees will be ground into mulch for use later.

The trees also can be taken to any of the three county drop-off centers:

• Baltimore County Resource Recovery Facility
  Located on Drop-off Drive, off Warren Road, in Cockeysville.
  Hours: Monday - Saturday, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

• Eastern Sanitary Landfill Solid Waste Management Facility
  Located off the 11400 block of Pulaski Highway, in White Marsh.
  Hours: Monday - Saturday, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

• Western Acceptance Facility
  Located near the 4500 block of Hollins Ferry Road, in Halethorpe.
  Hours: Monday - Saturday, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
