One of the older luxury community in the DC area is Kenwood on the imaginary Chevy Chase-Bethesda line. Bordered by River Road, Bradley Boulevard, Goldsboro Road and Little Falls, Kenwood is a beautiful community of 6 townhomes with nearly 2000 square feet each built on Brookside Drive in the mid 1970s and nearly 300 stately large homes built over the years beginning in the early 1920s on lots ranging from 1/4 acre to more than a full acre. Kenwood is renowned for its beautiful cherry blossom trees that arch over its quiet streets, creating flowering pink tunnels in the spring. Visitors come from around the metro area to view the cherry blossoms which rival those at the Tidal Basin, and the neighborhood children make a tidy profit selling lemonade to the slowly driving cars winding through the community. This beautifully renovated Colonial which has nearly 4700 square feet of living space on four finished levels was listed by WFP for $3,690,000. The beautiful moldings and gleaming hardwood floors, large windows, and high ceilings make this an exquisite home! The embassy sized dining room & living room, separate office, den, and great room adjoining the Chef’s kitchen are as beautiful as you would expect for the very special home. The rear yard of the property has a large pool and patio, an outdoor barbecue area with an outdoor fireplace, all placed in a lush garden, perfect for entertaining. Backing to parkland makes the property even more private! If you would like to see this very very special home, please give the Lise Howe Team a call and we will contact the owners to inquire about a private showing just for you. We recognize that the property has expired and is no longer on the market, but who knows – you might be the buyers that these sellers were waiting for! Is there any better place in Bethesda to grab a late night snack? Whether it is an omelet filled with salsa, steak and eggs, or a side order of Smithfield ham and grits, the food is flavorful and ample. The best tables are in the back and the music on the jukeboxes is great! Stand by Your Man and Burning Ring of Fire take turns with the latest offerings from Miley Cyrus. I love this post on Insiderpages.com, which described the Tastee Diner as follows: Like any good 24-hour dive, Tastee Diner mixes quick, cheap, down-and-dirty deliciousness with out-of-date decor and sarcastic service. The blueberry or chocolate chip pancakes (served anytime) are fantastic; the mushroom cheeseburgers are even better. Pair off either one with a tall, thick chocolate milkshake and you’ll find yourself bloated and happy for hours to come. Large, something-for-everyone menu with prices ranging from $3-$8 a plate. PROS: Waitstaff and grill cook are real characters. The global fair trade movement began with the founding of Ten Thousand Villages more than 60 years ago through the visionary work of Edna Ruth Byler, a pioneering businesswoman. Byler was struck by the overwhelming poverty she witnessed during a trip to Puerto Rico in 1946, where she was moved to take action. The seminal contribution of Byler ignited a global movement to eradicate poverty through market-based solutions. Byler believed that she could provide sustainable economic opportunities for artisans in developing countries by creating a viable marketplace for their products in North America. She began a grassroots campaign among her family and friends in the United States by selling handcrafted products out of the trunk of her car. Byler made a concerted effort to educate her community about the lives of artisans around the world. For the next 30 years, Byler worked tirelessly to connect individual entrepreneurs in developing countries with market opportunities in North America. From humble beginnings, Ten Thousand Villages has grown to a global network of social entrepreneurs working to empower and provide economic opportunities to artisans in developing countries. Bethesda enjoys its own Ten Thousand Villages at 4959 Elm Street. Be sure to check it out – the holidays are coming! There is a free concert at the Glen Echo Park in the bumper car pavilion this Thursday evening, October 28, beginning at 7:30 pm, featuring two local bands, the Crimestoppers and Nobody’s Business. Kenwood’s developers planted the trees in the late 1920s even before the first house was built as Kenwood was created from what was then considered as a far-flung suburb built on the site of a tobacco or dairy farm – depending on whom you believe. To help lure Washingtonians to Kenwood, they built the Kenwood Country Club, to which every homeowner was given membership. Calvin Coolidge considered buying one of the model houses as a summer presidential residence, said Beverly, who serves as the community’s unofficial historian. But when Coolidge decided not to run again in 1928, he instead retired to Massachusetts. Still, Kenwood has drawn its share of local luminaries. During the 1960s, Spiro T. Agnew lived there along with several Cabinet members and Senators. The Kenwood Country Club has a pleasant 18 hole golf course along River Road and Goldsboro Road. It is reputed to have narrow fairways and greens, well equipped with numerous and challenging hazards! If you are searching for a luxury home in Bethesda or Chevy Chase, you should definitely give Lise Howe a call. As a long term resident of Washington and Bethesda, she is well equipped to help you navigate the area real estate market. In the last six months there have been six properties in Kenwood have been sold from $1,495,000 to $2,200,000.FEATURED LISTING – 6111 Kennedy Drive, Chevy Chase 20817 -Expired

B-CC is a fabulous school, deserving of your support, so if you are anywhere near the corner of Battery and Old Georgetown Rd on Friday the 13th at 6;30, you won't need to worry about any bad luck!
If you are looking for a home in this exceptional school district, then you should give Lise Howe and her team a call. Lise has been a realtor in the DC metro area for more than 20 years and has called Bethesda home for many more years than that. Homes in the B-CC school district start in the low 200s for a condo near the school on East - West highway and go up from there. Mid sized homes, such as townhouses in Kenwood Forest, are a great alternative to condos. Kenwood Forest has been a popular community since its development in the late 1970s. Townhouses in Kenwood Forest are two to four bedrooms on two or three levels and range in price from the mid 400s to the high 600s or low 700s, depending on the size and condition. Homes in Kenwood, a beautiful community along River Road and Little Falls, are surrounded by lovely cherry trees which burst into bloom each spring to the delight of residents and visitors alike.
