About Dorchester County, MD

Taylor's Island is located on Route 16 West in the southern part of the County. Unique homes, schoolhouses, and three churches are points of interest. The Becky Phipps Cannon is displayed telling of its capture from a British ship off Taylor's Island during the War of 1812. Many sites on the island are listed on the National Historic Register.

The tidal marshes of Taylor's Island have been relatively untouched by the development of small towns and villages on the nearby shores. Small "islands" of loblolly pine and cedar forest dot the marsh system. This large island, comprising 1,100 acres, is a classic illustration of Chesapeake Bay tidal marsh habitat.

Hurlock, MD was incorporated in 1892. Hurlock, Md is known for it's awesome railroad facilities and below I have posted an old railroad waiting station and two old passenger cars that they still use today. Since Hurlock had great railroad facilities it was known as the industrial and commercial hub of Dorchestor County, MD. Since they became this there town's motto is "On track.....since 1892".

Hurlock, MD has many churches which serves a variety of denominations and also has a freee library. The Hurlock Free Library is the oldest on the Eastern Shore and second oldest in the state of Maryland.

Cambridge, MD was founded in 1684 by English colonists. Cambridge is one of the oldest colonies in Maryland and at the time of settlement, the Choptank Indians were already living on the river when the English colonists arrived. Because of the history Cambridge, MD has, the Hyatt built a 400-room Regent Chesapeake Resort that includes a golf cources, spa, and marina to accomodate the toursits. Some of the United State Presidents who have spoke here were President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama.

Many, many, many years ago Eastern Shore had a Baseball League and Cambridge, MD hosted four different baseball teams that were called The Canners, Cardinals, Clippers, and Dodgers.
