I am sure that most of you have been monitoring the status of the "Homebuyer Tax Credit" in Harford County, but if you haven't, this is what we know:
Homebuyer Tax Credit for Harford County Homes has not only been extended, but it has also been expanded to include current homeowners in Harford County. The following are features of the new bill:
• Deadline for current credit is November 30, 2009.
• Deadline for new and improved credit is April 30, 2010, as long as the home in Harford County is under contract by that date; deal must close within 60 days.
• Eligibility and amount of new credit: - $8,000 for first-time homebuyers in Maryland (those who have not owned a home in Harford County in the last three years). - Up to $6,500 credit for homeowners who have lived in the home they are selling, or have sold, as a principal residence for five consecutive years in the past eight.
• Buyers in Harford County with income exceeding $125,000 for single and $225,000 for married couples are not eligible.
• Homes in Harford County valued at more than $800,000 are also ineligible.

I read two articles today in two different newspapers (one from the BALTIMORE SUN and one from the USA TODAY) that stated the first time home buyer tax credit is up for consideration to be extended and expanded in Harford County, Maryland and throughout the rest of the country. I pasted links to both stories at the bottom of this message.
From what I read they are planning on trying to extend the first time home buyer tax credit until the end of April. Under the new proposal, from what I read, first time home buyers will have until the end of April to enter into a fully executed contract of sale, but will be able to push the settlement until June. I did not see anything else about the $8,000 rules changing from the original bill that is currently in place right now and set to expire on November 30, 2009 (ALL SALES MUST BE CLOSED BY THAT DATE):
THE NEW PART OF THIS LEGISLATION IS (Again, this is based from what I read and this is very new and fresh information which will surely be updated so STAY TUNED)..........................................................
REPEAT BUYERS WILL ALSO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE CREDIT! All of the exact details have not been put anywhere that I have seen so STAY TUNED. What these articles did mention was a credit of up to $6,500 was being included in the extension of the bill for REPEAT BUYERS who have owned their homes for at least the last 5 years!
