Woe is me.

Just got the 'breaking news' via WMAR's notification to my BlackBerry a few days ago and I am truly distraught. The scoop is that ACME's Fallston, Maryland location - at the intersection of Belair Road and 152/Mountain Road - is set to close its doors by the end of February.

Since becoming the self-proclaimed Crazy Coupon Lady of Bel Air, ACME has been a true godsend for me and my family. The deals have been phenomenal.

Can't say that I'm at all surprised at the closing, though. The place truly looks like the land that time forgot. While new buildings/businesses are cropping up all around it, sad to say, ACME's exterior building and surrounds have not been maintained very well at all. There's an on-going conversation between me and my girls about seeing tumbleweed rolling by; the shopping center looks like a ghost town and/or the perfect backdrop for a movie about the wild, wild west. Yup, I knew this day was coming.

Speaking of new businesses cropping up, did I mention that a new Wal-Mart Supercenter is under construction less than a mile away right on Belair Road? One can never have enough Wal-Marts in one's town, can one?

As for the store slated to close, I've heard rumors that ACME stores which are not owned by corporate - stores in leased buildings - are the ones being affected. Interesting.

I've gotten to know the dedicated staff at the Fallston store and hope that ACME is doing the right thing by them. Bradley at self-check, the various managers, the one guy who was always stocking the store (who's name escapes me right now..) - all good people. Thank you all for treating me like a valued customer whenever I visited your store. My wish for you is that you find an employer that appreciates you for the truly great employees you are.

While I'll eventually 'get over it' and move on to another grocery or two, I hope the staff at the Fallston ACME will just as easily move on to bigger and better employment.

Shame.
