Historic Relay is a Baltimore County, MD neighborhood, situated right across the county line from Howard off of Route 1. It is nestled in between the 895, 195 and 95.
Granted, nestled may seem like an odd word choice but once you visit the neighborhood you will know what I mean. It’s a secluded area boasting its “own” entrance (by proximity) to Patapsco Valley State Park – as a matter of fact you’ll see residents riding their bikes to the park quite often. Its closeness to major routes is an asset, not a draw-back, making it a convenient location for anyone working in the Baltimore Metro area, at NSA or Fort Meade. It is also just within minutes of both the Relay and Halethorpe Marc Train Stations and close to UMBC.
Historic Relay has been a designated historic district since 1996 which is proudly displayed throughout the neighborhood. It is a quaint community with a charming neighborhood feel and pride of home ownership is evident on every street. It is still a neighborhood in transition which means many homes have been lovingly restored but there are also others that are still waiting for their charm to be brought out and to shine in their old glory.
Just to show you that Relay is the essence of a true neighborhood, new residents are welcomed to the community with a basket full of goodies and an official mentioning in the community newsletter. Every September the residents celebrate their community with a Relay-Day, a children’s Halloween party is held every October and in December some homes are opened to the public for a Holiday House Tour.
Homes for sale in this historic neighborhood do not exactly flood the market - and that is a good thing. As a matter of fact many of the residents stay put for decades or generations, which is a testament in its own. During the last 365 days only 5 homes were offered for sale, 4 of which sold. Currently there is one center-hall colonial for sale, offered at $500,000. It was built in 1940 and sits on 1.72 acres!
If you are considering purchasing a home in one of Maryland’s historic neighborhoods, you may just want to put Relay on your watch list!

Baltimore County: New Jobs in Halethorpe
Two companies have purchased space in Halethorpe Maryland for their business expansion plans.
They currently employ about 70 people and should be expanding their workforces soon by more than double.
Make sure that you give them a call before the rush hits.
----------------------------
Alberee Products/SAVER Automotive Products and Parabiz have purchased a 101,750 square foot office/warehouse at 4665 Hollins Ferry Road in Halethorpe, MD to house the companies' corporate offices and manufacturing and distribution facilities. The building's acquisition price was $4.3 million.
Steven L. Cornblatt and Rene F. Daniel, both Principals of Trout Daniel & Associates, represented Alberlee Products in this transaction. J. Joseph Casey and Thomas S. Burns, both Senior Directors with Cushman & Wakefield, represented the seller, Mt. Royal Management, LLP.
The companies are transfering their corporate offices from Vienna, VA and their manufacturing and distribution facility from its current location in Baltimore City. The move will bring 73 jobs to Baltimore County.
The facility is located on 5 acres and will house administrative offices and manufacturing and distribution operations for SAVER Automotive Products, a windshield wiper manufacturer that supplies products under the Goodyear brand name to Costco stores throughout the United States. The building will also house administrative offices for Parabiz, a leading provider of integrated IT, security and point of sale solutions. The companies currently employ approximately 70 people and expect to add 40 or more new jobs in the near future.
The Baltimore County Department of Economic Development assisted the companies by facilitating a $6 million Industrial Revenue Bond to purchase and renovate the vacant office and warehouse space.
"We put our research resources to work for nearly six months to study the market to find space that fit Alberee/SAVER and Parabiz's needs for a Baltimore-area location" said Cornblatt. "It was satisfying to find a location that was ideal for their diverse requirements that ranged from expansive manufacturing space, loading docks for distribution and quality office space."
Chung said the access to BWI Airport and Interstates 95 and 695 were also determining factors in the location selection.
"With a new rubber extrusion machine coming on-line this spring to ramp up our wiper blade production potential, we could grow our work force to 150 employees," said S.G. Chung, COO of SAVER Automotive and Parabiz. SAVER currently exports Goodyear and SAVER wipers to the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Taiwan.

He Moved Across The Street
It was easy for me and it was even easier for him.
Who needs a moving truck? Just carry your furniture out the front door, cross the street, and walk right into your next home. In fact, it was just as easy to move the swing set, which fortunately was not anchored into the ground with cement. One person lifts one side and another person lifts the other side and across the street they go.
This particular person was a contractor, so when the buyers of his old house told me about a problem which still needed to be addressed, I just went across the street and got the seller, who immediately came over and fixed the problem.
The house he was selling had been renovated, while the home that he was buying had not been touched in fifty years. Nevertheless, this purchased home allowed him a potentially bigger home and lot and room for a garage.
He said that it would probably take about two weeks to get all of the renovations complete. It was not that the renovations were to be minor, it was just that this was the capability and nature of his construction crew.
The hardest part of the deal was tracking down the owner of the house to be bought. He had already moved out and the dealings went through his lawyer.
The house that he bought is almost unrecognizable compared to when he bought it.
In the end, two transactions with complete satisfaction by all parties.
