Baltimore's Miracle On 34th Street.

Who hasn't heard of Miracle on 34th Street?

For over 60 years, Baltimore has had its own Thirty-Fourth street and each Christmas season, this Hampden neighborhood, is turned into a miracle of sorts. If you are in or near Baltimore, this is something not to be missed.

Amazing what happens between the 700 and 800 block of W. 34th Street. Look what one neighborhood can do. Check out this pictorial from last year December 2010

Santa Claus is Coming to Town - 39th Annual Mayor's Christmas Parade

December 4, 2011 starting at 2pm is the 39th annual Mayor's Christmas Parade. The parade starts at Poly / Western High Schools and crossing Cold Spring Lane, continuing south on Falls Road to 36th Street, turning East on 36th Street, turning North on Chestnut Avenue and ending at 37th Street.

The attendance along the 2.5 mile route reached over 25,000 people last year at the Annual Mayor's Christmas Parade to view Santa Claus and about 160 marching units. The parade has the Baltimore Marching Ravens, Harley Davidson motorcycles, marching bands, the Boumi Temple performers, floats, and lots of fun!

The Mayor's Christmas Parade is sponsored by community associations and businesses in North Baltimore's Hampden and Medfield neighborhoods.

McCabes in Baltimore, MD is for Great Comfort Food!

After our visit to Hampden and taking photos for my latest post...Miracle on 34th Street...Baltimore,Maryland Style, we stopped a McCabes for dinner. We had not been to this restaurant at 3845 Falls Road since it closed about a year ago.

We are delighted with the new McCabes and its selection of good home-style comfort food. The place is not very big, only ten tables and a bar that seats 15, but that's enough for a local neighborhood bar, which is full but not too crowded. The noise level is a bit high because of the size and the brick walls. This restaurant is definitely worth trying.

Lee started with a bowl of absolutely delicious Tomato Basil Soup, topped with a piece of crusty crouton. Temperatures were in the 30's so this was an excellent choice! The yummy brisket was served with mashed potatoes, carrots, peas and onions.

The ribs were tasty, fall off the bone tender, served with extra sauce, fries and a really good, extremely thin sliced, cole slaw.

And to finish this lovely meal, it was hard choosing between the chocolate chip bread pudding and I forgot what other desserts. We chose to share a homemade warm slightly tart apple crisp with with vanilla ice cream. All in all a winning choice.

The foursome who sat at the next table, listening to us, ordered everything we did and were pleased to see me photographing food, something they like to do also.

If you are in the Baltimore area, go see the Christmas displays on 34th Street and have a bite at McCabes.

With so many cars parked and stopped in the road, it was hard to get full photos of the entire block.

And another crab, this time made out of wrenches.
