THE GARDEN FAIR at SOTTERLEY PLANTATION

The Garden Fair at Sotterley Plantation

As the colors of springtime return to the landscape, final preparations are being made for the much-anticipated 1st Annual Garden Fair at Sotterley Plantation. On April 25 & 26, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., this one-of-a-kind regional event promises something for everyone. Begin the day with a Yoga or Tai-Chi class in the garden and move on to learning about everything from Gardening to Beekeeping to Oyster Ranching from one of more than 30 speakers. As part of the Maryland 375 celebration, there will speakers and a scavenger hunt highlighting indigenous herbs and plants.

Renowned presenters and Master Gardeners will share their expertise. Demonstrations and exhibits on a wide array of gardening related subjects will be on hand. Children will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty and have something special to take home for a small fee. Talented vendors will sell their wares including plants, garden accessories, decorative glass, artwork, skincare, and baskets. Tours of Sotterley Plantation's exquisite gardens and the Mansion will be offered at a reduced fee, and the Corn Crib Historic Tools Tour will also be available for free.

Admission for The Garden Fair at Sotterley Plantation is $10 for one day or $15 for a two day pass. Members pay $10 with the second day free. Children under 12 years of age are free. As part of the event, the Sotterley Garden Guild will hold their yearly Plant Sale, which the public will be welcome to enter free of charge.

River Riders, the Greenwell Foundation's inclusive and accessible kayaking program, opens for the season on April 1, 2009. River Riders offers kayak rentals, lessons, summer camps, and guided trips on the Patuxent River.

Rentals, lessons, trips and kayak camp are open to people of all abilities. River Riders has a wheelchair accessible (ADA-compliant) floating kayak and canoe launch. The launch is open to the public during regular park hours (sunrise to sunset) River Riders is in session from April 1 through October.

Additionally, River Riders will hold an open house during Greenwell's Sundays in the Park program scheduled for April 12 from 1pm-4pm at the Knott Lodge. Stop by to see some of the new kayaks and register for kayak lessons, camps and guided trips.

The Greenwell Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing inclusive and universally accessible programs, service and facilities at Greenwell State Park in Hollywood, Maryland.

Cuckold Creek in Hollywood, Maryland is my favorite creek in Saint Marys County. It is large enough where people water ski. It has very deep water in some parts, perfect for a sail boat. This photo was taken at Clarks Landing Resaurant. There are a few marinas on the creek as well. Currently there are 4 water front homes for sale on the creek ranging from $325,000 - 679,000.
