Adventures of a Kirk Family Thanksgiving

Marney Kirk, Towson, Maryland Real Estate: Real Estate Agent in Towson, MD

This week was the oddest week my family has endured in a long time.

It began with me heading to the Patient First in Lutherville (a local immediate care facility) on Sunday, and finding out I have a sinus infection, therefore missing my 13th Baltimore Ravens home game since 1996.

Wednesday, my parents arrived in town for Thanksgiving, and my mother promptly fell and broke her arm on my driveway. Back to the Patient First, this time a much more dramatic trip, as her wrist was broken in two places.

Thursday, we had 30 guests at our home for Thanksgiving, and the night began with my husband cutting off part of his finger, and yes, the third trip of the week to the Patient First.

Friday had us with an extremely long wait at the orthopedist for them to ensure the wrist did not need repositioning or surgery. (Luckily no, and mom went with the fluorescent pink cast to show her 5 year old students at school).

Saturday brought me back to the Patient First (yes, trip #4 this week -- we have been joking here that they need to either change the name to "Kirk First" or we should at least get a reserved parking spot!) because my sinus infection wasn't much better, and they changed my antibiotic.

So those are the Adventures of a Kirk family Thanksgiving.

I am very thankful for the wonderful people at Patient First at Greenspring Station, and for their amazing care of my family this week, and am grateful we live close by to be able to receive their services.

I am thankful also for the the fact that my family is on the mend, and things were not more serious.

I am also grateful for my social media friends who were praying, caring, and worrying for me during this time.

In this month of Thanksgiving, I have found many things to be thankful for, and I hope you have found life to be the same for you!

Boy Scouts of America - Do you have a school age son?

June Piper-Brandon, CRIS, ePro, Broker: Real Estate Agent in Baltimore, MD

Were you a boy scout? Or a girl scout when you were a kid? I was a girl scout and loved it, I loved the activities, the games, the crafts, the trips, the camping trips and all the cool stuff I learned.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

For nearly a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes - and, through nearly a century of experience, knows - that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

Now that school is back in session so is boy scouts. From age 6 through 10 boys participate in cub scouts. Starting the journey as a Tiger, through Wolves, then Bears and into Webelos before bridging over to boy scouts. If your child attends Lutherville Laboratory School you will see Andy Engel at the back to school night. Andy was our cub master when my son, Liam, was in cub scouts. Liam had a blast participating in the Raingutter Regata, the Rocket Derby and Pinewood Derby, carolling, camping and all the day trips they did.

Last year Liam bridged over to boy scouts and is now in Boy Scout Troop 340. Troop 340 meets on Friday evenings at 7:30 at St. John's Methodist Church at 216 W. Seminary Ave., in Lutherville. The meetings generally last until 9:00 pm. If you have a son aged 11 or older this might be a great opportunity for him to get involved in a great organization, learn some great skills and participate in some great camping or hiking trips. This year the group has a bike ride on the NCR trail planned along with a Ski trip, hiking on the Appalachian Trail, kayaking and summer camp at Broad Creek. Troop 340 has a large number of Eagle Scouts that still partipate with the troop and attend the trips and camping expeditions. If you have a son that might be interested in joining Troop 340 you should call Jim Barton 443-573-2542 for more information. The court of honor is on September 12, at which time the boys will earn their rank advancements and be awarded the merit badges they have earned thus far. The boys are developing life long friendships with other boys who share common interests and common opportunities while they have a great time.
