North East, MD is a great place to be. Whether you are relocating to Aberdeen Proving Ground for BRAC or just visiting for the day.
North East is located in Cecil County, MD at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. It is
in between Baltimore MD and Philadelphia. The town of North East was settled prior to the 1700’s and was incorporated in 1850. The population was 2,733 at the the time 2000 census. It consists of approximately 995 acres of land. The town of North East offers “something for everyone”. The main street offers antique stores and restaurants, there are several parks, you can visit historical sites, or enjoy a day on the North East River. North East is a town looking towards the future while preserving it’s historical small town charm. There are several large housing developments, increased commercial growth, surrounding marinas and Elk Neck Park.
North East offers the beauty of the water that attracted its original settlers and the charm of small town life. It is a town full of history. A symbol associated with North East is the Great Blue Heron, meaning that you have found the Land of Pleasant Living.
The main attraction for tourists today is the Chesapeake Bay, restaurants, Maryland
crabs (my all time favorite), antique shops, collectibles and history. A few miles south of North East is Elk Neck State Park, which is surrounded on three sides by water. Here you can find the Turkey Point light house and quite an amazing view.
Elk Neck State Park - located at the end of Turkey point Rd. on the peninsula formed
by the North East and Elk Rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay. An easy walking trail to Turkey Point Lighthouse provides a view of the Elk River and the Chesapeake Bay. This park features a Boat launch, cabins, campfire programs, campsites, camp-store, dump station, food & beverage, fishing, flat-water canoeing, hiking trails, historic interest, hook-ups, hunting, picnicking, playground, shelters, swimming and a visitor center.
North East Community Park - located at the end of Walnut Street on the Northeast River. This 13 acre waterfront park picnic pavilions which can be rented, a walking path, playground, restrooms, a volleyball court, space for fishing and docking by the Upper Bay Museum.
Turner Park- located off of West Street. Has a baseball diamond available for public use.
