St. Patrick's Day at the Rams Head Tavern!

Andrea Bedard, M.A. ~ Realtor® & Mil Spouse ~ Silver Spring, MD and beyond: Real Estate Agent in Silver Spring, MD

"Rams Head Goes Irish on St. Patrick's Day With A Huge Party!"

The Rams Head locations are known for their great parties - the 2012 St. Patrick's day events promise to be no different. The only difficulty you may have is deciding which Rams Head to visit!

The Annapolis locations, the Rams Head Tavern on 33 West Street and the Rams Head Roadhouse on Generals Hwy, will kick off the celebrations at noon with tent parties!

All locations will have drink specials starting with 50 cents for a Guiness from noon to 1 pm and $3 for a Green Beer while supplies last. Naturally, traditional Irish fare will complement the menu at all Restaurant locations.

Live entertainment is also lined up for each location from noon until close. My personal favorite is the Rams Head Tavern at Savage Mill - it's such a fantastic setting ... and said to be haunted!

The Rams Head Tavern is a great place to visit all year round, with Happy Hour Specials, plenty of live entertainment, Jazz Brunch Sundays and Military Appreciation Night on Thursdays (for active-duty SVC MBRs, specials start at 8pm). If you have never visited, St. Patrick's Day this year may be the perfect day to do that ... Rams Head Goes Irish!

Savage Mill Ghost Walks ~ I followed Marty and ...

Andrea Bedard, M.A. ~ Realtor® & Mil Spouse ~ Silver Spring, MD and beyond: Real Estate Agent in Silver Spring, MD

I followed Marty around Historic Savage Mill and got my spook creep on.

Having blogged about the Ghost Walks of Ellicott City and Historic Savage Mill earlier this month I was increasingly curious to go and experience one myself. When one of my past clients friends suggested to get together this weekend, it was the perfect opportunity. We not only had a great evening but definitely got our spook on!

Marty is one of the tour guides for the Ghost Walks in Ellicott City and Savage Mill. He did a wonderful job of mixing history of the mill with the stories about its resident ghosts. Marty has enough material to start a 2nd Ghost Walk of Savage Mill and I hope he'll do that in the future.

For now, you'll hear about Ms. King, the tragic staircase next to the Ram's Head Tavern, right before you enter the Spinning building and little children. In the mill's heyday child labor was still very much the norm so not surprisingly many of the stories involve children... The Mill is loaded with charm and original detail, check the railings and floors for example, and has a unique feel to it. My friend and I both noticed that the Paymaster's Office felt quite differently - maybe because its story is one of the creepier ones ... or maybe because the story is not a story at all.

I highly recommend the Ghost Walk of Savage Mill - combined with a visit to Rams Head Tavern it makes for a perfect evening - especially when it's time to get your spook on! The tour started at 8 pm and lasted a little over 90 minutes - plan on Rams Head after wards since your ticket comes with a 10% off coupon!

If you decide to go, bundle up since the Ghost Walk will take you inside and outside the Mill and you may just want to watch your step in the New Weave building. Why? I suggest you go and follow Marty to find out!

Get Your Spook on! Part II: Savage Mill Ghost Walks

Andrea Bedard, M.A. ~ Realtor® & Mil Spouse ~ Silver Spring, MD and beyond: Real Estate Agent in Silver Spring, MD

Several ghosts are said to roam the buildings of the historic Savage Mill in Savage, MD, noises are heard occasionally that nobody can explain and little occurrences happen here and there
that cannot be debunked.
There is the story of the little girl who fell in the Old Weave building and died and who is said to be "still playful". It may be her who trips up people on the same step or who moves things around ... Suri, the security guard at Savage Mill who makes his rounds at night can assure you that "the little girl" is very much around. He has seen her during one of his shifts at 2 am "in her white dress" and "very clearly, very distinct"... an experience that left him just a bit shaken.

Shannon, an associate at Artcraft, showed me a piece of furniture in the store that she'll sometimes find moved away from the wall when she returns in the morning. It's a heavy piece, a bar, that no one can get to when the metal gates are locked. She also recalled an incident when objects where thrown out of a display case ... was it the little girl?

Roxy, the owner of Roxy's Art, has worked at Savage Mill for about 6 years and has heard a few stories... Her former partner Jill was cleaning brushes one night and turned away to take care of something else. When she returned to her brushes they were neatly stacked from smallest to tallest but there was nobody else there with her... Roxy has also had an issue with her computer turning itself off, she had the tech guys look at it but nobody could figure out why, so they "blame it on the ghost".

Roxy's son Steward manages their Family Game Store and told me about a story one of the architects in the building experienced. She was working late at night and repeatedly heard "high-heeled footsteps" above her. There is nothing but an attic above her office and who would walk around there in the middle of the night?

Without doubt historic Savage Mill is an intriguing place with an interesting history. If you would like to hear more about its past and its spirits, consider "Ghost Walks in Historic Savage Mill"

Oh, you noticed the little girl in the white dress? I thought it was just my imagination ...

Historic Savage Mill is a very unique place,
there is nothing evil going on and none of the people I spoke to are afraid... the ghosts (or their stories) are just part of Savage Mill as is its uniqueness.
Savage Mill is home to a variety of shops and businesses: Artcraft, Terrapin Adventures, Roxy's Art, The Family Game Store, Antique Center, Love Live Images, Rams Head Tavern - just to name a few.

It is a great place to shop and well worth a visit anytime of the year!

Savage BridgeAs reported by the Associated Press yesterday, the Savage Towne Centre, in Howard County, has been added to Maryland's Zones, preparing for up to 60,000 incoming BRAC job positions in the State expected by 2015.
