PET-FRIENDLY DAY OF FUN IN THE SUN AT ANNMARIE GARDEN ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 23

If you enjoy taking your pet for walks at Annmarie Garden, then you will want to plan a visit for Sunday, August 23, 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. All day, pets and their people are invited to stop in for pet-friendly art activities inspired by the current exhibit, Wild Things. Go wild with your pet as you make a paw print work of art to take home. Or help brighten up the overhang of the Arts Building by painting a rock inspired by your pet. Pets and their people can also walk through a tray of non-toxic (and washable paint) and then walk the wooded path leaving their human and animal prints as a momento of their visit. It is an unusual and artsy day for pets and their people at Annmarie Garden. All activities will take place on the back patio. Pets are free, but people pay the regular admission for all activities: $3 adults, $2 seniors, $2 children ages 5-12; kids under 5 are free, and AMG members are free.

WILD THINGS

What is it about animals that enthrall, delight, terrify, inspire, comfort, and intrigue us? Animals of all kinds - wild and domesticated, real and imagined, extinct and extant - are the inspiration for Wild Things, The newest exhibit of indoor and outdoor works at Annmarie Garden in Solomons, Maryland. Fifty artists from across the county, working in all media, were selected for inclusion in Wild Things by jurors, Professor Sue Johnson of the Department of Art and Art History at St. Mary's College of Maryland, and Dr. Donald E Moore, Associate Director/Animal Care at the Smithsonian Institution's National Zoo. As described in the jurors' statement, "the remarkable diversity of life on this planet is reflected in the range of subjects, styles and mediums of works included in the exhibition, Wild Things. Here we can find creatures great and small, representing the unusual and the curious, as the artists picture what they closely observe in nature and what lives in their imagination. Each artist offers a unique perspective, and in turn the visitor is invited to contemplate the relations of humans in and with nature in new ways."

Visitors with children will appreciate the hands-on activities that complement Wild Things. Channel your inner beast and create a graphic print of the wild thing within you, or help create a mural by designing your own fantasy animal and placing it in a landscape. And finally, the Summer Safari for Wild Things has begun! It's a fun summer-long search for animal clues inspired by the exhibit. Wild Things will be on exhibit through August 30th in the Arts Building at Annmarie Garden.
