Thurmont, MD

I was in Thurmont Maryland the other day. It is located along US 15 just north of Frederick Maryland and is the home of Camp David. I managed to take a few photos of the fall colors while I was waiting to meet a client. The Catoctin Mountains are in the background. Enjoy!

The 45th annual Catoctin Colorfest will be held on October 11 & 12, 2008. Over 350 juried arts and crafts will be exhibited in two areas in the Town of Thurmont. Both areas are within walking distance. The craft areas are the Thurmont Community Park and the Guardian Hose Company Activities Grounds. Admission to both of the craft areas is free.

A word about parking. There are three exits into Thurmont off Route 15. From the south they are Route 806, Route 77, and Route 550. Four Park and Ride lots are available with the easiest access from the Route 550 or Route 77 exits. At the Route 550 exit, Catoctin High School is located just 1/4 mile west of the exit towards Sabillasville. From the Route 77 exit, you can follow Main Street through Thurmont and turn left on Apples Church Road for several lots. The costs for parking is $10.00 per car and $50.00 per charter bus. The $10.00 fee was established by the town and helps defray their expenses from this event – there is no admission fee to either of the craft areas. The shuttle bus ride is free. You can ride it to all the locations as many times as you desire. The buses will run continuously from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. each day. There are handicap-accessible buses available at each stop and there is no parking available at either of the craft areas.
