Some southern Maine real estate  ads post the "no jet skis" warning label on waterfront property for sale.

maine jet ski, me seadooWhat's the deal in Northern Maine, in Aroostook County or Northern Penobscot and Washington Counties?

Well, other than Timoney Lake in southern Aroostook that says no go to over 10 horsepower motors, we enjoy the lakes with seadoos, jet skis or party pontoon boats, inboard and outboard vessels. The wrong person on a high powered jet ski or speed boat that is drinking is dangerous on any lake. But with only a handful of boats, we don't have a problem with lake congestion, noise, dangerous driving for the local Maine game wardens to worry about, to police.

With way way fewer people, less congestion, the policing or regulation is not necessary. Less people, less restrictions or abuses.

If you are looking for peace and quiet, on a lake, waking up to fresh hot coffee on a deck taking in a sunrise and listening to loons sing (or cry), run to a phone.

Have You Noticed The Happiest People Often Have The Least Toys, Stuff, Junk?

Andrew Mooers | Northern Maine Real Estate / Aroostook County Broker: Real Estate Agent in Houlton, ME

When weaving into the hills of a lush green poverty stricken Carribean island, crowded in a little beat up houlton maine cook out grillvan with my four kids, a startling observations was made by my eight year old son.

The roads we traveled on were twisty, narrow, dirt. The homes we pass did not quite belly up to the bar on our classification as a home. Missing windows that were never installed. Rusted flaps of metal bent and catching the wind like a captain less ship's sails heading into the rocks like roofing. Skinny dogs that did not look healthy, or fed for days roaming the jungle like yards or opening in the vegetation.

But despite the squalor setting lacking much, scattered with debris, the local islanders were visible happy.

Smiling broadly, laughing, singing, waving. The vans narrowly passing each other swiftly, honking vigorously. Connected, needing each other, content with their less than oppulent lifestyle or hefty income tax bracket status. My son said even though they don't have much, they are happy, peaceful, lively. It made me think that most of the happiest folks you see are not on the front of Forbes magazine's wealthiest edition.  The most joyful, so happy it just oozes without words when you are within eye shot distance are not worried about 401K's or what latest model of metal is parked in their garage for others to envy. They don't impress people, don't have to try. They stand out as blessed, charmed, natural, at peace and content.

When folks talk in email and on the phone or thru visits to Northern Maine, I let them know up front that "fun" is family, hiking the outdoors of Maine, paddling its waterways and many lakes, rivers, streams. Our recreation is right here in our backyard. You also don't move to Northern Maine thinking of pulling down eight digits a year. You don't land here thinking to impress, to hob know with the upper 400 or folks who you would never find in steerage, third class.

armored car, brinks bankMany of the folks who live here have done so most of their lives. No one needs an armored car of money to live comfortably in Maine. It's not about the money.

Others "transplants" cruise in at the tail end to slow down and enjoy the sunset years before parts start wearing out. To recoup, recharge from the hard years of pounding the pavement, pushing thru bumper to bumper traffic and the bright lights, big city living. But give me the down to earth, what you see is who they are folks that care about each other. They ask you questions, rather than draw attention for themselves.

These are the folks you bump in to at McGill's Houlton ME music summer concerts, or on the Big Rock ski area, or paddling down the Meduxnekeag in a river canoe race to celebrate spring's arrival. Or at one of the 14 area churches. Is that what you are looking for? Small town, no one trying to set the world on fire, and a safe place to raise kids, make an honest living, enjoy the great outdoors that  living in "Vacationland" provides?

Maine..you move here for way way more than the low attractive real estate prices. You get a lower population but of friendlier, help you out, care about you folks that you'll bump into at church bean suppers, the local farmer's market or in a kayak paddling a local lake near sunset. Simple, real, relaxing, honest. Maine, the way life was meant to be. As a kid, my three brothers and I were reminded a lot by my mom that "gratitude is riches". Happy may have a correlation to your wallet size...smaller wallet, less clutter and more simple use of the money you do have. Basics. Your needs, not all your wants. (Teletype dit dit dit sound) News From Houlton Maine, Southern Aroostook County...(dit dit dit)

Dateline Houlton Maine...what is the current news, what is happening in Southern Aroostook County this houlton maine aerial town imagemorning?

Well in local Maine sport news, the town of Houlton ME is celebrating the state class C high school golf championship. For the second time in four years, Coach Bruce Nason's squad has brought home the gold and put Houlton Maine on the map. Golfer's Nick Chase, Ian Gervais and Logan Shaffer each shot a 6-over-par 78 to lead the Houlton Shiretowners to the state golf title Saturday at Natanis Golf Course. Gaige Flewelling pitched in an 84 for the final Houlton score of 318 as the best four of five individual scores making up the total according to Houlton coach Nason.

Turning to local snowsledding news, Wednesday night, October 14th at the Meduxnekeag Ramblers Snowmobile Club House in Littleton Maine on Cary Lake will be the site for a membership supper. A traditional turkey meal complete with all the extras is free to those signing up for another year of support for the local snowsled trail system. The club also invites local Aroostook land owners who allow the trail system to cross private property to make snowsledding the fun winter experience many enjoy. It elm tree diner photo, houlton maine restauranthas been estimated the average Maine snowsledder pumps a thousand dollars a week into the local economy during a slower time of the year for most Maine businesses.

And this just in, the Elm Tree Diner, a local restaurant institution in Houlton Maine for many years that suffered a fire recently is planning on rebuilding.

And in the interim, Owners Gary and Hope Dwyer plan to open a temporary operation at the former Governor's Restaurant location on the North Road, behind the Shiretown Motel. Roughly 30 people were put out of work from that fire that did extensive damage but caused no personal injury. The cause of that fire tied to an electrical problem. And before we break for a commercial announcement and turn to local weather, news in Houlton Maine that the 28 unit housing project under contruction in the Market Square parking lot just west of the Temple Theatre and Zippy's Take Out aroostook county potato harvest imageRestaurant continues. Crews are working hard to complete ground work, the intrastructure hook ups for water, sewer and to get framing of the three story structure overlooking the Meduxnekeag River weather tight for further winter construction and completion.

Speaking of weather,  local Northern Maine potato farmers could use a little more sunshine, dryer digging conditions and temperatures above freezing each night for the days ahead. Area growers are grateful for  a quality crop and larger yields during the harvest this season. Wet colder days have plagued area farmers anxious to get the crop out of the ground and into storage. Rain is in weekly forecast for the yearly traditional harvest now underway that Aroostook County youth are involved in to help area spud growers get the crop safely stored for the winter. Here's a Maine potato picking video clip showing spud pickers hard at the task of filling those barrels the old fashioned way.

With Medical Help, Is It Better The Further From Home You Go? And Same With Bank Financing?

Andrew Mooers | Northern Maine Real Estate / Aroostook County Broker: Real Estate Agent in Houlton, ME

In Maine, we are very fortunate to have super medical facilities in place, staffed by folks who want a houlton maine pig scramblefriendly, crime free, pollution free area to raise a famly in.

So unless you need a brain transplant, or plan to upgrade all your major organs with loaners, Maine health care in the Houlton Maine area is superb. The same goes with local Houlton ME banking, financing institutions. So we don't have to scramble out of town to catch an attractive loan program, or a local professional that understands the ins and outs, the mechanics.

I just got back from a Maine Association of REALTOR state convention at the Samoset in Rockland ME.

The many southern Maine loan orginators and mortgage brokers who have hospitality suites after classes wonder how to get more of Northern Maine's bank buying customers. Have to smile, remind them we have some pretty sharp financing individuals in place.

Six local Houlton Maine banking outlets and with land loans, waterfront real estate, many many owner financing loans. No bank, Custom made and remember our prices are so much lower, so is the loan. It all boils down to well made local loans using all the financing VA, HUD, Rural Development, SBA loan programs. Plus the smaller local Maine banks have a custom made portfolio loan that is flexible, driven by the old days of not just credit score or years on job. It looks at the person, the property and considers all the aspects of the borrower and property. Not jammed into a cookie cutter loan situation where appraiser's stratch their head. Or where underwriters try to make comparable sales / listings what they are not. Watch the local Houlton ME banking video options and jot down some names, telephone numbers to contact.

The J Geils Rock Music Band Has A Song "First I Look At The Purse" When Dating.

Andrew Mooers | Northern Maine Real Estate / Aroostook County Broker: Real Estate Agent in Houlton, ME

In buying real estate, folks look at the purse, decide if the price tag matches the size of that purse orsmiling pig wallet.

But just as important as the cost, the looks, the features involves a move to a brand new unknown area. The hospital if mom is coming and has a heart condition is a big concern. The local public library I have had real estate buyers say is their judge, barometer for how stellar an area is. The schools for a quality education are another area the relocating real estate buyer is very keen to know more about. All schools, hospitals, libraries are not the same quality, possessing the same level of excellence or reputation as the ones they are leaving behind. So part of our blog posts about the Houlton Maine area delve into the big three.

Videos that show the excellent Houlton Maine music program also a highlight of posts to a variety of video platforms to get the word out..like this one, and the local high school prom, the science fair, a hockey game, the graduation from that school are critical. The border patrol, customs, immigration Houlton Maine real estate buyer needs to know as he considers the next port of entry to move to along the Aroostook County / Canadian border.

The local Maine real estate broker is a logical fellow to provide that information on a low key, simple approach so they can transport to Houlton for a few minutes from where ever they presently live.

So advertising, blogging and video posts about just real estate is missing the special flavor of each town, all the neat people who live here. This is an example of what we do thursday nights behind Cary Library at the Houlton Amphitheatre. Neat music duet video. We're happy here..happy as well..maybe the fellow in the upper right hand corner of this post. The expression "you can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear" suggests in relocation that moves to different areas may be doomed for failure. the success of the move depends on the building blocks of the community. That's where they blog posts, videos, podcasts come in.
